The Cedar Is Me

I look upon the four hundred year old Cedar tree
That has survived such chaos, death,  decimation
Of great forests of pine trees by invaders who ‘free’
It of its natural resources, life, and vegetation.
Encased in the trunk of the ancient tree, the world
Is small, burning hot under the summer sun, flashing
Its heat and brilliance to help everything grow into a postcard
That’s photoshopped into being breathtaking
In its organized life, only disturbed by humans barking
Out order for dissolving the inner and outer beauty of its solitude.

Slipping out of the of the cedar tree, I take my human form
And gaze astounded on my reflection: wrinkled skin,
Darkened splotches, and great disillusionment
Darkens the depth of my eyes as I lay bare upon the bank.
The scenes of war and decimation I witnessed
Have been imprinted on my soul, waiting for any deed
That will alleviate my despair that humanity is a dying breed
That needs new blood, ingenuity,  and values
To help it defeat famine, war, racism, and religious discriminations.

Listen

Nature’s wonder enhances, amplifies your own
The vibrations of joy and discord implant upon
Nature’s own resources, and reflect them
Back to man, raising their optimism and exuberance.

Exert from my poetry book, Perfectly Flawed.

Important Insignificance

The fox enveigled the cheese from the raven,

The child wheedles the cookies from parent,

The dog raises his puppy eyes and melts your heart.

The birds twitter and flutter coaxing attention,

The flower shyly moves its petals to receive

It’s caresses from the sun’s rays: nutrition!

The man wads his wallet to empress,

While the woman wears her war paint as not to depress;

The elderly lament their youth, and try to cajole

Their kin into longer and more frequent visits.

While the individual struggles to beguile themselves

Into believing they’re valued more than they are!

Ironically, they lack the vision to see their importance,

That drives jealousy in others in constant

Turmoil with themselves, for those lack your presence!

Luck?

Today, the world is a global village, where

Knowledge and friends are at your fingertips, there

Or across the ocean, continent, country, even street

You never know where your next lucky charm will pop up at.

Buck, f–k, junk, luck, tuck, truck, stuck, struck,

All revert to luck as they all stick together in a funk.

I love all these good luck charms that drive in an infinite

Figure eight to send some more luck your way, even if late.

From billions and millions of people around the world

To the individual’s solitary existence, to eco systems

To the tiniest ant, even tinier, that make the systems

Work simultaneously, and depend on each other hard.

It’s a lesson to learn, that ‘no man’s an island ‘,

And neither can nature nor man live separately

Nor can either live without the strength of belief, strongly

Ensuring ALL’s survival for their dependence is the law not the exception.

Ring Around the Posy

A lone posy sits up in a bone filled garden,

Its petals bright and soft defy the cold. Unbidden,

Its leaves and burgeoning tips reach into the sky,

Savoring the sun’s rays, helping its growth.

Posy buds gather around their leaves,

Waiting for the rain to feed their roots

In order to turn into a bouquet of nosegrays,

That symbolizes love, honor, prosperities

In China, but shame in Victorian England.

Still the queen has made posy bouquets a trend,

Now weddings advertise them to blend,

Fuse the various items together, while they stand

Out looking somewhere between a rose and tulip,

Regal in its stance in the bouquet or lawn.

In the park or garden, bones stick out, they fawn

Over the brittle, broken, dirty white pieces.

The opposition of life and deaths

Where the stark white of animal and human

Bones litter the ground, unseen;

Versus the beauty, color, and softness

Of the vibrantly colored petals raised in

Supplication and gratitude for such beauties.

Stunning those observing into believing

That God created such wondrous beings!

Cardinal’s Passion

What’s spring if not a rebirth of life, beauty, and passion?

The last as red as a cardinals’ feathers, fly

Into your heart, home, and nook with preservation

Of your unique humanity looking kingly

As you let your heart soar in the revelation

That life, flowers, trees, and shrubs all beautiful,

All colorful just like a spring sun that shines fitfully.
