Certificate of Excellence for my poem: HELL O WEEN

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

HELL O WEEN

The past year has been worse than any
Halloween as it was actually HELL O WEEN …
The Hell of being weaned on what’s seen
On social media’s snippets of genocide, carry

With it atrocities of dismemberment,
Beheaded children, fetuses gutted, children
Bullseyed by snipers, flour line’s broken
By bullets whizzing past victims of bombardment.

So hello, HELL O WEEN, we see
Your inhumanity,
Your unlawful abiding personality,
Your insouciant attitude to killing.  Be

The Hell in our Haloed Halloween for you’ve
Shown us that: unity is strength,
Gen Z still has a conscience whose breath
Of freshness is awakening those who’ve

Followed blindly behind HELL’s demand
For subservience to its god given
Right to rule the world with a broken
Set of laws that are man-made but bind,

Bind those whose ambition
For power is greater than their compassion.

My poem, Breathe Through the Blood, published in Stencils magazine

Breathe Through The Blood

I’m drowning in blood,
Blood of families blown asunder,
Asunder. Limbs and heads loll,
Loll, broken, decapitated, bloody,
Bloody from arteries leaking,
Leaking from wounds, impossible,
Impossible to tend, as hospitals,
Hospitals have lost the ability to heal,
Heal thousands of extreme wounds,
Wounds teaching ‘How to breathe,
Breathe under water’ and blood, swim freely,
Freely through the morass of corpses,
Corpses dismembered in bombs,
Bombs used to spread fear,
Fear for the need to survive,
Survive another day of massacres,
Massacres in refugee camps,
Camps made of flimsy tents,
Tents made of canvas easily destroyed,
Destroyed by a breeze, flammable with fire,
Fire that burns all to smithereens.,
Smithereens and shards of pagers,
Pagers and phones turned to bombs,
Bombs that made it necessary to remove,
Remove patients’ eyes, that traumatized,
Traumatized surgeons whose job,
Job is to help their patients survive,
Survive,  yes, but with which abilities?

Second place, Certificate of Achievement for poem: Abomination

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Abomination

Life with depression, isolation,
Low self-esteem are conductive
To  lead some into destructive
Behavior: drugs, cutting, suicide, in submission

To peer pressure, an abomination
Played in schools and social media
Who has subliminal criteria
That provides some collateral for creation

Of a compulsion to hurt others, knowing
Of the resulting confusion that will
Lead to unfortunate decisions that kill
The will to live free of the castrating

And agitating abomination of isolation.

Diploma Certificate for my poem: Book’s Visionary

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Book’s Visionary

Creating a world with paper and pen,
I watch my vision evolve to stun in a den
Of books, windows to the unknown,

They litter the shelves, organized
In alphabetical order for all it’s simplified,
But those unique books, mine, and those grown

In power as time passed, and some
Tried to surpass their Ideology that come
With experience, social living, wearing a crown

Of knowledge,  practicality, friendship
That coalesce into strong leadership
As your intellect expanded with the blown

Exposé of things that seem foreign
As your experience is limited to the line
Of things taught to you not learned with a frown

As you explore its meaningful message
While you look at other references, not a cage,
To amplify your understanding its daily application

Not just learning but doing, changing.
That’s the purpose of books of all genres, rebelling.

Felt like baking

On the left, spinach pie filled with spinach,  ground beef, feta, egg, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and cottage cheese  (can be replaced with cream cheese, but kids are on a protein diet). Tastes yummy, crunchy, and melts in your mouth.

The other is a traditional Lebanese pastry filled with ground beef, onion, peas, and rice. The spices are what make it so special: nutmeg, cinnamon,  7 spice, cloves, and cardamom.  All the above is placed in a puff pastry shell, then baked. It can be enjoyed alone or with a cup of yogurt with a bit of salt.

Accolade for my poem,  Children’s Hunger

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Children’s Hunger

Famine, hunger in such young eyes
Makes your heart flutter and cries
Out for the injustice of their plight
Where food is scarce and working is a fight

Among brothers, sisters, kin to survive,
Survive with enough only to strive
The next day, another forage, another clash,
To sustain an entire family in a brush

….

Children growing old before their time in fine

Slithers of hope that shine
Through black clouds of hopeless brine,
Brine of depression’s hold that flogs
The will to survive another empty stomach that bogs

Their thinking process to when’s

…..

RAINDROPS

Acrostic

R eveling in November rain, running, skipping
A way, trying to outrun the wet tears of pain.
I nvite a friend to reduce loneliness that
N ever ends with the sky filled with grey.
D elve into your tears of pain,
R equest an extension to get rid of the agony and
O utmaneuver its hold by
P ressing the raindrop on your face, feelings
S welling your heart in absolute sincerity.

Thank you, administrators,  for the accolade and your hard work.

REJECT

Acrostic

R ejected again! For what gain?
E mpathy’s nonexistent as you wade,
J ump through hoops to integrate, but
E very action is met in rejection of
C arefully spoken words, so as not
T o hurt others. Alas! The effects are traumatizing.

Happy November 😊

Love November

The days are shorter,

The rain is faster,

The skyline slowly becomes barer,

The colors are a wonder,

The walks are easier: sweatier,

Life slows down, and you move farther.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem: Fiery Fall

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Fiery Fall

Colors of fiery fall feed your
Feelings of fierce freedom
Flowing with the blowing,
Air around all aflurry,
In its need to breathe in
The sweetest air keeping you alive.

I let the fleeting breeze
Run up my sleeve, it
Sneaks up my armpit,
As easily as you please,
Surges through me, lifting,
Roaming around, finding pause
To circle, freely, around my breast,
Neck, and head. Stealth is best,
As I fly where the wind will rest.

As the sweeping air embraces
Me with its wonders,
I steal a peek, and my heart stutters,
At the fire leaping from the leaves,
Whose colors turn from yellow,
Burnished greens, rust, blood red,
Burgundy, all flit around my head
Leaping from tree top
To tree top, to bush, to flower,
To weed, to soil, nourishing
All with its slow hover
That steals your breath in awe
At the splendor of the fleeting fall critter.
