Diploma for my poem, Sounds of War

Thank you, administrators,  for the accolade and your hard work.

Sounds of War

Drum, drum, drum,
Drum the stoned bun,
Turn it around and run.

Drum, drum, drum,
The hum of whizzing stones
Drop like bombs on bones.

Crunch, crunch, crunch,
Rush to flee debris from a thump
That hits the head, and you’re dead! No pomp!

Stomp, stomp, stomp,
On the stoned cement
Fallen from bombardment ..

Cave, cave, cave,
Under the hopelessly inhumane
Conditions of decayed bodies, pain …

Rotting, rotting, rotting
Away in the streets, floors underground
With walls, furniture burying you, never found …

Slowly,  slowly,  slowly,
Killing you with death around you,
Within you, captivating you in its horror’s view.

Boom, boom, boom,
The shaking, quaking resulting
In fear spreading like bird songs floating …

Wheezing, wheezing, wheezing,
Trying to breathe under the rubble
Is like being buried alive in moving sands in a cuddle.

Certificate of Appreciation for my poem: My Love

My Love

If “Love opens the most impossible gates;” and
“Love is the gate to all the secrets of the universe.”
Then, love is all powerful, eternal, rebellious, never bland,
But compassionate promise In a universe

Filled with dissent, competition, a love of money,
And sin. I give thanks that my love, husband,
Is my rock, my motivator, and one key
To my writing that’s unwavering and always holds my hand.

My love is there for the difficult decisions,
Guidance and friend to our children,
Has sleepless nights when they’re in positions
Of upheaval that require strategic precision.

For me, he is my star in a dark night,
The shoulder I cry into when life’s unbearable
Losses enrobe my heart in darkness, as he helps me fight
The devouring abyss making it acceptable.

Certificate of Distinction for poems about Valentine

Thank you, administrators, for the honor and your hard work.  The prompts were about cultural symbols of love given daily for 1 week. Below is 1 of those:

I PROMISE
Acrostic

I’m hardwired to nurture,

Promising to love you in sickness, health, and
Respect who you are without changing
Out your ethics, character, that
Melts my heart as your soft compassion
Internalized in our love, never to
Separate, except when it overflows to
Empower our kids in their lives.

Diploma Certificate for my poem,  Love’s Poetry

Thank you, administrators, for the honor and your hard work and mine! Being 12 of 26 poets honored is a great impetuous to write more.

Love’s Poetry

As light is hope and all that’s bright,
Learning to love in the sun illuminates
Your perception on values, character, that fight
To blot out negativity that’s darkened puss

That festers as an abyssimal blight
To optimism whose courage roars in
Flight to piece together poems whose bite
Is only a loving caress, as their images pin

Your beauty from words to face, wrinkled
From endured hardships but glows
With the passionate compassion of being loved.
As you shower me with languid eye’s light, the fight throws

Away the scourge of love’s broken heart
By filling papers with poems that brook
No argument to its plight in trying to strut
The words in verses and lines that cook

Your presence into the essence of love
Unbroken by a pessimistic world that implodes
When amour is at its best fighting in brave
Behest of a soul needing rest in paper adobes.

Certificate of Distinction for my poem: Staying Power

Staying Power

What’s poetry if not an agglomeration
Of words in rhyme and rhythm?
A world of poetic devices, accommodation
Of varied styles, structures that’s not grim?

What’s a love story
If not one that has a start,
Climax, and end that’s happy or gory?
Where pink tinted glasses reflect

The author and audience’s
Need to escape life’s duties, stresses
That place tremendous pressures
On couples needing one anothers happiness

Without needing to compromise
Or putting in the hard work required.
‘What’s love?’, in that case?
That’s the staying power of being loved,

Loved for yourself,
Loved for your strengths, weaknesses,
Loved for your imperfections put on a shelf,
As your greatest power shines in smiles

That never dim while facing despair.

Certificate of Excellence for poem:

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Short

Short; I’ve learned that life is too short,
What are the necessities of such a sport?

Live, live, little by little,  enjoy it all,
Your childhood,  youth, adulthood,  cycled circle

Of flaws that turn into strengths
That raise you up to a pinnacle of breaths

That feel uniquely important for you not to fall.
The abyss below can be a starkly black ball,

Or a bright sunny day filled with fun and play.
Enjoy the rainbows that come after a rainy day.

Those days are infrequent,  transient,
And easily missed if you’re mired in your own dejected

Despair, whose darkness can’t be pierced
By the frivolity, fun, smiles, laughter of  living and dead.

Don’t,  don’t let that despair put you down,
Scare it away with your strength of will!

Second place, Certificate of Achievement for poem: Abomination

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Abomination

Life with depression, isolation,
Low self-esteem are conductive
To  lead some into destructive
Behavior: drugs, cutting, suicide, in submission

To peer pressure, an abomination
Played in schools and social media
Who has subliminal criteria
That provides some collateral for creation

Of a compulsion to hurt others, knowing
Of the resulting confusion that will
Lead to unfortunate decisions that kill
The will to live free of the castrating

And agitating abomination of isolation.

Review of my poem: Death’s Door

Each time I get a review like this, it motivates me to write more and connect with those who can’t, or won’t, or couldn’t, or shouldn’t be able to express themselves.

This poem is a result of falling back into past trauma based on the wars that’s taking place in the Middle East, Lebanon, Syria,  and P@l3st!ne.

My poetry book, Perfectly Flawed poetry for change, is available on all eplatforms including Amazon.  It was on the finalist list for the Canadian Book Club Awards 2023, and also contains poetry against colonialism and the port explosion in Beirut.

Flighty Heart

Fragile paper hearts
Easy to tear,
but cuts
Like a bear.

Its unique shape
Lends to despair,
When it broke
By your hand and air.

Its unique shape
Rises into fullness,
Then dips in face
Of falsehood that pierce.

Look into its shape
That seems divided
Into yay and nay, a cape
Of vascillation that cried.

Its tear wails
Till eye sight is blind
With too many choices
And decisions that bind.

Oh ye who have
A paper heart,
Let its love
Blind you and don’t cut.

React to Darkness

The world runs around and bucks you

Off your trajectory with minutiea that drive you

Up a wall, and down into darkness which blinds

Your senses that either gives adrenaline or freezes

You into a statue that’s blind, deaf, and dumb.

Your vision turns into bright starts that short-

Circuit your mind with blinding light whose sport

Is to suppress your logic, embracing emotions

That turn you deaf to all evidence against your passions.

Those then steal your ability to speak your mind.

As the world moves round and round, like a merry

Go round, so do you try to stave off the shocks that ferry

You into dismay as experiences are disillusioningly

Petrifying, with their obstacles and demands

On your taking a stand outside your comfort zones.

Stay the course.

Stand tall.

Savor each experience.

Strengthen your faith with failure or success.

Sever negative relationships,

And let your self-confidence emerge

A snow white pigeon of peace and verve of life.
