Accolade for my poem,  Black Wolf

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Review by Linda Powers O’Dell

Malak Kalmoni. Chehab A wonderful celebration of the wolf’s true nature, Malak. Too often vilified, wolves keep a habitat alive. All animals are innocent, we should honor them in principle. Excellent detailed descriptions and passionate ending!

Black Wolf

Oh ye baronial black wolf
Your golden eyes’ glow fiercely,
Shining a light among the blackest huff
Of dankest hour of the night, stealthily

Preying on his prey in paltry
Moonlight, pupils following, carefully,
Snout sniffing for hidden danger, boastfully,
He lunges on his prey, without mercy,

He kills to assuage his hunger,
That of his pups, pack, no blunder,
No torture, goes directly for the kill, a killer,
No psychopath, no serial killer,

He kills for survival, a part of nature
A force to be reckoned with, pure
Of heart, a defender of family, a purr
Is for happiness, making him more

Humane than a curr.

Accolade for my poem,  Killing Hunger

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Killing Hunger

Famine has lent a scrawny
Build to people’s agony
Of being constantly hungry
They search, vainly, for sustenance that cry:

Killing hunger is a crime

Of conscience for food is plentiful
If shared, not horded in a full
Contingent of warehouses where gruel
Is hidden from the poor, while for the fanciful

Killing hunger is a rhyme

For each individual to recall
For each crumb means a loss of a ball-
Room of people daily who have none but fall
Groveling for a pittance to call

Killing hunger is a crime

Of outstanding proportion
For man’s compassion
Has died with the materialization
Of the individual needs before population

Killing hunger is a rhyme

That never ends, a cycle of obsession
Survival of the Ego before orchestration
Of growth for all that leads to destruction
Of cries and perspiration

Killing hunger is a crime
With no reason or rhyme.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem,  Reflection or Refraction

Reflection’s  Refraction?

Mirror,  mirror, ‘Who am I looking at?’
Is that face, mouth, nose, all mine?
Mirror, what do you see when you look at
Me? Is it just my beauty and thine?

Have I no substance in your mind?
Haven’t you born witness to the depth
I hide behind the broken smile that’ll find
A hidden maze to secrete screctets in a breath
That creates a brume on your shiny
Expanse? Does it fog my reflection
Of a life lived, enjoyed, even chose empathy
For the plight of others under destruction?

As the image is reflected back at me,
I wonder on the choices I made,
The trajectory I took, is what has come
To be a reflection or refraction of things that fade?

Certificate of Excellence,  poem, River of Life

River of Life

The river is an allegory for life
It is at times smooth as glass,
Clear as a bell, strong enough to sand rocks
Into the smoothest silky textures.
It’s teamed with life, as different species
Live and let live, while others, more dangerous,
Hunt, dessimate, and devour their preys.

It isn’t enough to see that rivers allegate
To all that is portrayed in life,
Rather one needs to be aware that cycles
In nature are imitations of human life.

The strong prey on the weak,
Large numbered populace impose their belief,
Rather than understanding one another,
Exchanging respect and help to survive
The difficulties that life’s cyclones
Throw your way to test your will, powers
Your unity, compassion,  empathy, and loves.

Let nature be your teacher,
Respect its mightier strength as a lover,
Embrace its touch, reach into the sun to empower
Your steely strength as swelteringly hot as
The magma that bubbles from within
Trying in vain to alligate its worth to that of life not death.

Bronze Certificate of Achievement,  poem: Nature’s Rejuvenation

I’d like to thank the administrators for the honor they’ve bestowed on my poetry.

Nature’s Rejuvenation

The wonder of the sea as it cleanses
Itself with waves frothed in peaks
Of brilliant white, flagging the onlookers

To note its brilliance as it hits the shore
With great abundance of fish, sea urchins’ core,
Crustaceans who never bore,

All vie to survive in an ecosystem
Whose balance is fragile but come
Forward to purify an environment is lame

As it’s bombarded in garbage,
Toxins that destroy the balance, in an age
Where every resource and commodity rage

For its preservation for survival
Of humanity is vital,
But, Man’s corporal life hung in destruction of the mystical.

PALESTINIAN WOMEN SUFFER

Acrostic

Patriots empower the pulverized
Assuming their ability to unify
Leads to greater support
Even when each woman, mother,
Sister, daughter, grandmother has
Truly experienced the power of loss.
In the 150 days of escalations
Neighborhoods have been decimated,
Ire has risen, family trees cut,
Ample theft of property and Palestinians,
Nearly overflowing skin banks with

Women, children, and men’s skins and
Organs are sold illegally, turning a profit,
Meaning Palestinians are being Israeled in
Every way possible. Women
Needing c-section and complicated

Surgeries without anesthesia
Under a cacophony of bombs, snipers
Fixating on murder of medical staff, never
Fearing paying the piper, as they’re
Empowered by arms and tech that
Reveals their cowardice and courage of women survivors.

Women around the world keep your eyes on these courageous women, as the difficulties they’re overcoming are unimaginable.

Time to Do More

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

It feels like the world spins and flows like a river, unstoppable, and when it seems as though you don’t have enough time for everyone you love. As a nurturer and introvert, I bottle up my worries as I try, unsuccessfully, to take care of everyone’s needs before my own. The time, I would like to have is so that I can take care of myself better. That way, I can give more.

Sometimes, the world around you feels so oppressive that it stumps your ability to navigate a world that supports murder, death, and genocide of those weaker. That feeling carries into your home, blocking your capacity to be there for your family, as it drowns you, constantly, in visions of charred bodies, women, children, elderly, even infants in incubators die. How can I reconcile my compassionate nature with what I’m being asked to bear witness to?

How can I perform within my family when I’m bombarded by such visions of violent, thoughtless aggression against the innocent? Why is it that I have to witness peoples’ lack of humanity as they watch and do nothing?

Death’s Door, Certificate of Excellence

Death’s Door

The time for death is near,
Near the hearth of family,
Family, whose the sole perpetrator,
Perpetrator of unconditional love.
Love, that’s the ravager of loneliness,
Loneliness that drives despair,
Despair, that’s the cultivator
Cultivator of dispossessed souls,
Souls that needed love, received brutality.
Brutality that’s emotional and physical,
Physical breaks that takes ages,
Ages to mend, but never overcome,
Overcome completely the degradation,
Degradation of Death’s door that opens
Opens for all aggressors who’ve torn,
Torn away at your confidence.
Confidence that you rip out of their palms,
Palms that are covered in blood,
Blood of the innocent who survived,
Survived hell on earth and won,
Won the war over death’s door.

Earthquake Quake, 2023

To those who’ve experienced death from the earthquake:
My prayers for you are infinite in beseeching Allah/God to help you endure the devastation.
The miracles that have erupted after the earthquake are many and varied:
A newborn surviving 10 days under the rubble.
A young child tells her rescuers that she hasn’t been able to pray.
A father holding his daughter’s hand through the rubble till she was rescued
A 13 year old gas tunnel worker singing his praise to Allah as he works, while the earthquake devastated the area.
The financial aid, from Arab countries, that was sent to the 2 countries was astounding.
These and more reflect that believers still exist, and their prayers are getting answered.

Happy Hijri New year

The new lunar year has started! It’s based on the year the Prophet Mohammed immigrated to the city of Medina (Saudi Arabia).

Every new year is special, but this one is a reminder that life is a struggle to survive and prove the strength of your faith.
