Rest, relax, rebuild, relive, revive, Never rewind to the time when fighting was live, Bombarding my surroundings with burning Flames, explosions, bullets whizzing, Safety is nonexistent, danger surrounds you, Fear of a stray feud or knife are behind you Or beside, or ahead of you; never inside you. Your heart stays pure, needing to help Never stop giving and receiving hope, Or the fighting ends, You lay down your arms, Surrender to hopeleness and despair, That’s when fear reigns and overwhelms. Give your loyalty, love, hope, and optimisms Freedom to grasp your faith and expose It to the sun, let it soak its warmth in a pose Of reverence to God’s powers of prose In which your strength bursts, warming You from the inside, till its beauty sings A rainbow of colors illuminating your skin With its brilliance. Bask in its wonder, Revere its words and sleep calmly, a dreamer.

Look at that child smiling in his crib, Unbeknownst to him his importance, never glib, He speaks when his mother couldn’t Defend herself, protecting her reputation that shouldn’t
Have been in question, GOD giveth When he pleases, and His pleasure’ breath Give birth to a miracle child, carrying The sins of humanity without complaining,
His resolve, strength of belief still Affect people today, although division may kill Each other, while he preached peace, Generosity, forgiveness, compassion that never cease
To assuage the burdens, stress Of those who follow his teachings, flawless In their discipline in everlasting values That keep communities united in varied hues.
Wake us up to your harmony, a symphony Filled with blessed peace not a cacophony Of brittle minds, unbending as they face Change with a blackened heart turned to grace.

Malak Kalmoni. Chehab Wow, Malak, you really got to my heart with this powerful poem! All the repeated sounds of war are so evocative, calling up frightful images. I can’t help but think of Gaza, recent example of this terrible fear and destruction. So sad, so horrifying. Amazing images, fantastic poem! Bravo!! By, Linda Powers O’Dell
Sounds of War
Drum, drum, drum, Drum the stoned bun, Turn it around and run.
Drum, drum, drum, The hum of whizzing stones Drop like bombs on bones.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, Rush to flee debris from a thump That hits the head, and you’re dead! No pomp!
Stomp, stomp, stomp, On the stoned cement Fallen from bombardment ..
Cave, cave, cave, Under the hopelessly inhumane Conditions of decayed bodies, pain …
Rotting, rotting, rotting Away in the streets, floors underground With walls, furniture burying you, never found …
Slowly, slowly, slowly, Killing you with death around you, Within you, captivating you in its horror’s view.
Boom, boom, boom, The shaking, quaking resulting In fear spreading like bird songs floating …
Wheezing, wheezing, wheezing, Trying to breathe under the rubble Is like being buried alive in moving sands in a cuddle.

Acrostic DIVULGE Divest, direct, divulge secrets of war Instrumental for dominance with a Variety of armed tech that kills, remotely, Unforgiveable, unfettered violence against Less armed people, who just want to Greet the next morn with knowledge of Expecting a future that’s unhindered.

Warriors dressed in sheeps’ clothing Fight, as warriors are wont to fight, Let your voices rise, Soar like a kite, Cross oceans of fright, conquering
Hearts with words of peace, Empathy, compassion for humanity That has fallen astray, accepting fraticide As a way of life, unquestioningly
Some follow like the sheep they are, While others use every medium, From comedy, literature, criticism, Painting, sculpting, all in their way fare
And pair their visions of peace Fighting, unnoticed by many, But those affected by their kindly Actions have only gratitude that’ll fleece
Despair into an abyss where peace Reigns in warrior stance in pride That freedom fighters are framed in place By the courts of the people who don’t hide.

What’s poetry if not an agglomeration Of words in rhyme and rhythm? A world of poetic devices, accommodation Of varied styles, structures that’s not grim?
What’s a love story If not one that it has a start, Climax, and end that’s happy or gory? Where pink tinted Glasses reflect
The author and audiences Need to escape life’s duties, stresses That place tremendous pressures On couples needing one anothers happiness’s
Without needing to compromise Or putting in the hard work required. ‘What’s love?’, in that case? That’s the staying power of being loved,
Loved for yourself, Loved for your strengths, weaknesses, Loved for your imperfections put on a shelf, As your greatest power shines in smiles
That never dim while facing despair, Despair That the bridge you’ve created Can fall if your efforts only stare Rather than repair the damage to be blessed.
Blessed by sharing love With those of your inner circle Who’ve proven loyal in grave Circumstances while never living in a pickle.
The enchantment of poetic words Lies in the esthetic that builds bridges Between enemies, frenemies, lords Of your hearts, whose presence is in poetic cages.

CHIAROSCURO Chained light, Heavenly bright Incessant shadow, don’t Avert the radiance of justce Reflecting right’s light Offering hope when despair is Somewhat easier to drown in, while Courage to fight the battles of equality Under the umbrella of darkened power Revealed in rays that shine a ritulant glow Over the dispossessed of humanity’s light.

Love’s Masks
Share your inner thoughts, ideas, ideals, That power your imagination and hails Down upon you, admiration, envy that entails You have to choose who needs some derails.
Today, we hide behind our likes, Our social media personae that drives Our self-esteem into the grounds If it’s not up to par with our peers.
Why do we hide? Is intimacy such a bad ride, That you need masks to keep all inside?
Or do you soar in flight Fall, shatter, break, and give only a bite Out of the ball, then turn it into a free for all?
Love’s power only grows As love is exchanged and plows Dissent into an abyss of darkness
Where it’s devoured by happiness Of love shared and empowers hopefulness In a world that dictates the reign of the Ego.

As I face the face on the wall, Its chiseled, geometric form At great odds with my rounder fall Of jaw, cheekbones, wavy hair, crome
Colored eyes, show me a wall Of grey sheets, strong, heavy In its ability to crawl To adventures in imagination’s wavy
Thought process, while the wall Is 2D, unmoving, emotionless in prestine Condition for a crazy ball Where all that’s required is his presence, fine
In looks but empty for no thoughts on the wall Except surviving, not living, and weathering The changes in environments, a call That brings out the eco-protector to come dancing.
As the writing on the face of the wall Is eroded with time, so the face’s identity Is erased like dust in a breeze that will Hold you into its warmth and fly into memory.
