Diploma for my poem, Veiled Butterfly

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Veiled Butterfly

Her veil of flowers and butterflies
Flit around her head as her eyes
Wander into the night skies.

Her beauty shines through
Her astounding eyes of blue,
Framed by lashes of a brownish hue.

Her rosy lips stutter with each
Winged flap, trying vainly to catch
The flight of the butterfly and latch

Onto its fringes and take flight
With her fantasms in direct conflict
With reality’s nightmarish bite.

Her lashes flutter as her revelry
Into a utopian wonder clashes sensibly
With a reality where her veil is horribly

Marred by Stereotypes that bind
Perceptions of beauty of the mind
To terrorist activities that make you grind

Your frustrations for a lack of understanding
And communication that’s building
Roadblocks that inhibit freedom of living.

Review, accolade, and 3rd place for my poem, We Did Everything

Thank you for the accolade and your hard work. It’s highly appreciated.

We Did Everything

We did all we could …
Yet, genocide is as deadly as beheading,
Death is as real as your breathing,
Living is as traumatic as a horrifying cloud.

We did all we could …
But child amputees are running marathons
To survive but another day as pawns
Of politics that’s gross as it hammered

That “We did all we could”, clause
That left pregnant mothers to die,
Elderly to fry in fire’s explosive dye,
Fathers to be scattered in pieces in cruel cries

That “We did all we could”, was
Said to assuage politicians’ conscious
While knowing their endeavors were shackled in pious
Prison, whose doctrine permits rapes,

Whose haze in, “We did all we could”,
Evaporates in the fog of time that flies
Without scheduling its prime in trauma that cries
Out to be understood, yet, their voices loud

And proud in the hopeful quagmire of guilt
Of surviving, whole or not, presses
In the abyss of despair where hopeless
Orphaned, erased families, press to built.

Award of Appreciation for my poem, Ritulant Rays

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Ritulant Rays

Morning sun, rise, rise, spread ritual rays
In diurnal flight, a ritulant red glow
Awe inspiring muse of optimism flays
Despair’s hold on the starved souls’ chained in glow
Of sinful glamor of rays’ hidden plays
Painting the sky in figures, happy clown,
Creatures’ imagination as fleeting
As time is transient, elegant rising.

Review of my poem, Abomination, rating 9/10

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Abomination

Life with depression, isolation,
Low self-esteem are conductive
To  lead some into destructive
Behavior: drugs, cutting, suicide, in submission

To peer pressure, an abomination
Played in schools and social media
Who has subliminal criteria
That provides some collateral for creation

Of a compulsion to hurt others, knowing
Of the resulting confusion that will
Lead to unfortunate decisions that kill
The will to live free of the castrating

And agitating abomination of isolation
Whose suicidal intention folic
Within a sea of hardships, backwards, bucolic,
Needing calm reflection overcoming self-destruction.

Accolade for my poem, Dear Thanksgiving

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Dear Thanksgiving,
Your presence among us is heartening,
It elevates our appreciation for the thing
We have or don’t have, we are harvesting

The sows of our deeds, those
We’ve planted throughout the years, in rows
Watching, waiting their blossoming woes
Interceding, only when needed like crows

We broadcast our successes, never
Our failures, though we learn never to cower
From the latter, as they build character.
Be kindly appreciative, live in acceptance better.

Our obsession of sharing has become a groveler

For attention when the creator
Has provided senses, nature, power
Of knowledge,  might, imagination that languish
If not bolstered by appreciation for the giver.

Keep us honest and return daily
Reminding us that deity
Is a necessity for hope’s flighty
Flight Into overcoming gravity.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem, Tears’ Fears

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Tears’ Fears

Her tears, hidden like her fears,
They stain her cheeks in moments
Of quiet reflection, no sobs, tantrums,
Only a deluge of emotional expressions

Hushed by her shame that she’s weak,
Weak for having feelings that can freak
Out any ‘sane’ person and break
Their will to survive,  not her, her stake

In life is her children’s future
That she struggles to provide, nurture,
Even as she’s placed under careless provider
Whose emotional abuse is worser

Than any physical one, as the latter
Heals, while the first fester
In a heart that feels like a pester
For asking help to provide shelter.

Her tears and fears are hidden
From all, she only acknowledges the forgotten
Less worrisome problems that never flatten
As her strength overcomes the burden.

Platinum Certificate for my poem, Rebellion Yell

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Rebel Yell

Freedom is not given but taken,
Taken through the drive,
Drive of the oppressed to stay,
Stay the course in their rebellion,
Rebellion that insights thoughts,
Thoughts that revel in rocking,
Rocking the boat of taught habits,
Habits that destroy creativity,
Creativity needs a voice, medium,
Medium to transform its message,
Message that change is coming,
Coming to overthrow the tyrant,
Tyrant who exploits, destroys,
Destroys hopes, imagination,  freedom,
Freedom that ‘comes with great,
Great responsibility’, for its value,
Value lies in one’s ability to soar,
Soar, without hindrance, to reach
Reach the pinnacle of wonder,
Wonder that wanders stealthily,
Stealthily seeping through cracks,
Cracks that mold into a unit,
Unit that’s unbreakable with the help,
Help of imagination’s power,
Power that strives for justice,
Justice that reigns over happiness,
Happiness that cleaves subjugation.

Accolade and Review  for my poem, Upheaval

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Upheaval

Coup d’état! Civil Unrest!
Rebellion against a colonizer, a pest,

Businesses men, family men
Gathering together are arrested, put in a pen,

No pillow, blanket, toilet, only a feast
Of roaches, ants, creepy crawler beast

Of fear, for men who get no rest.
Seeing my dad get arrested was a great test

For an 8 year old girl, whose lack
Of understanding of politics didn’t give a frack

About all that, what I did care about
Was security,  family,  cousins, who had clout

But whose men were all indisposed,
So, women and children traveled

Away to reduce the stress on the men.
What about me, us? Noone asked and couldn’t ken

That the upheaval was traumatic,
But none spoke of it, rather it was repeated in frantic

Run to another border, unhygienic bathroom,
Food, Unfamiliar, on the go, speeding away from

Bullets ricochet in the Sky, while explosions
Rock the buildings around us. Decisions

On the fly got us safely to a country,
Safe, at that time, then traveled to London, fully

Anticipating another run, but, we spent
Ramadan there with friends before being sent

On another plane, to Canada, immigration,
What a fiction of safety needing integration

To survive, but beliefs, ethics strive
To cause trouble in the hive

That western society creates
For immigrants needing a place to forgets,

As trauma continues its hold, bold
In its fight to take root, but I won’t, under it, fold.

Gold Certificate of Achievement for my poem, Creating Worlds

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Creating Worlds

Utterance, words, sentences, verses,
Lines, stories, twirling, twisting, flusters
As they lay on the pages in twisters
As they create order from chaos that pulses,

Dances, rhymes, alliteration,  metaphor,
Personification, all and more catalyze
Into a wondrous tale that’ll organize
A timeline with a setting, incomparable per

It’s being sprung from imperfect
Humans whose despair, loneliness,
Drips into every letter in fitfulness
As they amalgamte into a perfect

Story line intermixing reality,
Fiction,  perception in a sign
That widens others’ perspectives in line
With a new narrative whose harmony

Strives to build a world of empathy,
Peace, understanding, theory
That centers around humanity
And its needs for guidance into morality.

4th Place for my poem, Thunder Clap

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Rhyme, Metaphor,  Epistroph

Thunder CLAP

Thunder clap, clap, clap,
Rip and roar, rev my heart, heart,
Into a thunderous beat, beat,
That trembles along my feet, feet.

Thunder clap, clap, clap,
Lightning flashes followed, followed,
By a horrifying growl, loud, loud,
Louder, shaking my rest as I become lead, lead.

Thunder clap, clap, clap,
You sound like an explosion, explosion,
Rocking the ground in your exposition, exposition,
Of a world alight with trauma’s revision, revision.

Thunder clap, clap, clap,
As the ground quakes in your wake, wake,
I gather my courage trying not to break, break,
My move for fear of what lies awake, awake.

Thunder clap,  clap, clap,
Light my way so you can sway, sway,
My worries into slumber, away, away,
From any darkened abyss that can flay, flay.
