3rd Place, Certificate of Excellence for our collaboration poem,

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Title – Orphans of War

Orphaned children of war,
Are hungry for peace that’ll crease
Away the trauma that resides, never sees
The light after wounds, amputations that are core

To surviving the war. As children
Whose childhood was decimated
By loss, parents, safety, laughter, loved,
Replaced by uncertainty, confusion, a burden

To those who survived with them, unable
To function in a world where war
Is the norm, peace is a broken contract far
From the ideals of humanity that are incomparable.

Debashrita Basu

Wars are nothing but a destruction of humanity
Loss of kindness, sympathy and love
Domination of a power over the world
Killings of many innocent women and children

Many physical scars are there
But psychological scars will never be decreased
It will destroy the innocence of children
Who are the victims of wars

Orphans of wars
Become victims of permanent fear and anxiety
Their sufferings are equal to God’s sufferings
Their pain means a lot.

Golden Pen Award, Accolade and Review for my poem, Diet

Malak Kalmoni. Chehab Fantastic poem, Malak! Counting calories is hell! This poem is an excellent indictment of how we allow ourselves to be brainwashed by cultural norms, thus setting ourselves up to be victimized by crass marketeers of fraud. You as poet do proffer the hope that we may be awakened, enlightened by love, but that too often turns out  to be a fairy tale. You raise such profound questions. To what extent are we shaped by stories and expectations? How free are we when we are so susceptible to cultural influences. You’ve created gut wrenching, powerful images and some wonderful scattered rhymes: hen/pen/wren, refrain/brainwashed, flees/deep, etc..Hurray!! By, Linda Powers O’Dell

Your poem is a masterclass in satire, Malak Kalmoni Chehab perfectly captures the endless cycle of dieting with such finesse, the way you weave words is truly creative. By, Ritu Shyam

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Diet

Diet shmyiet, what a gross lie it
Is told to men and women
To market
Products, tasteless, gross hen

Where the pen is the dieter’s
Wren speaking in a singsong
Refrain to honor the brainwashed
Who follow like Lambs to the slaughters

As they count calories,
Exercise till exhaustion flees
Into Snow White’s deep sleeps
To be woken, only, by love’s

Kiss, a fairytale designed,
Like the diet, shmiyet, to inculcate
A perception of self that changed
With trends of beauty’s fate.

Platinum Certificate for my poem,  Women’s Wars

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Women’s Wars

Wars have always been about expansion,
Glorifying the ‘self’, stealing resources,
Empowering through the subjugation
Of the ‘other’ by binary opposition that courses
Through blood, and ‘elevates’ their superiority to deity.

From the Silk Road, to the Spice Road,
To the Swez Canal, White Sea, Ben Gurion,
All show the need for exclusivity for the broad
Perception of ‘Civilizing’. What a crock gone
Down the clock into eternal sleep. Happy.

For each critical endeavor, conquest,
Women rally the people, organize,
Fight, rebel, strive to keep morale, at best,
Alive within the hearts of people to strategize
Survival and the compulsion to resist oppression.

As the flowers bloom, so does the woman’s
Need to resist being lumped in a category
That she knows she doesn’t belongs
To, but rather asserts her judicial equality
In a society that’s still a patriarchy.

Certificate of Excellence for my acrostic poem,  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Acrostic

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Intelligent, introspective, interesting,
Nurturer, negating violence’s never ending cycle,
Tears of joy and fear, silently leak
Engaged in a society whose fairly
Regarded as the epitome of civility,
Narrowly forgetting equality, except when the
Anvil drops and wakes its conscience,
Teaming life into depravity, while
Inculcating values whose immorality
Overwhelms family ethics,
National, communal compassion whose
Acerbic intention is nothing but discipline,
Love, appreciation of self and other.

Woman, worry not, your nature elevates,
Overwhelms others into a state of
Meaningful existence, unrepentant,
Empowered, independent, confident,
Nurtured and nurturing as
Simply, only she can.

Daily schedule, work, mother, daughter,
Aunt, friend, wife, all are one, woman,
Your input is invaluable, unforgettable.

Her freedom, imposed by GOD,
Is taken away by men  of power
Who fear her rejuvenating strength that plod
Without thought to health or happiness,  yet a teacher
Of infinite power that blends, supports, those weaker.

Certificate of Astounding,  poem: Violence

Violence

When aggression reigns
People’s solidarity feigns
Peace to give rise to new
Violence that undermines a few.

Women and children being
Weaker are in danger of prying
Away their self-worth with words’
Derogatory punches that blows …

Blows that rain down like
A thundstorm of screams that aren’t fake,
But rather, breaks ensue
That take eons to heal in a pew.

Escape is sometimes the only
Way to endure this period of powerfully
Oppressive and subjugated conditions
That requires succor from the perfections

Of a society whose aim is self-preservation,
And where victims of violence live in perdition.

Patriarchy

So men have gotten the fame they desire!

An entire day to their name! Who will enjoy it?

Who will cherish it?

Who will value the importance of it?

Who will disregard it?

Who will relate to it?

Who will abuse the power it lelt?

I know not!

What I do know is that men have a bad rap

History has turned them into a patriarchy crap

That has defined a man’s role in society,

Trying vainly to bind them into labels that are sappy.

Men and women are different. Let’s celebrate that!

Enjoy the opportunity to meld minds together,

Enjoy being amorous, friends, sons, daughter,

Binary opposites who need one another.

Don’t let social needs rule your ethics and values,

Generally, women are greater nurtures,

While men have a greater ability to withstand

Handle, and shoulder problems that grind

The heart and mind into dust, if their strength

Weren’t obvious in its existence in each breath.

Listen to the the father, son, brother talking:

They discuss how to provide for their family’s being

Proud of their conduct as they also give of themselves

To their ‘women’, children, friends, and careers.

Never underestimate the support that both

Generate to help survive in a world where debauchery,

Sin, gaslighting, deriding, racial slurring, iniquity

Are all part of our social order, that we deem both

A Necessary evil and a required critique of the unacceptable.

For change and acceptance to occur,

Time, teaching, learning, understanding don’t slur

The values of humanity, rather, they enforce them

By being more charitable, helpful, and adaptive.
