Forgotten History: Old Souk: Gold and Clothing

I’ve lived in Tripoli, Lebanon, for 20 odd years and never visited the old Souks. Artisanal clothing of hijab, kaftan, and much more are available to choose from. The variety will please all possible tastes in fashion, from materials to folklore designs, representing the culture of the middle east. The rainbow of colors and materials will astound the onlooker with joy and appreciation for the embroidery.

On the other side of this market is the Gold Souk, where you can see the craftsmen working with the gold, turning it into luxurious pieces.

Vintage Champion

Breakfast is the most important meal,
Meal, so, yes, daily coffee is a must,
Must have my routine lined up into a dot,
Dot of care and reverence for health,
Health vital to survival as coffee,
Coffee is my best friend to lend,
Lend a hand in preparing a champion’s,
Champion’s nutrients in a vintage,
Vintage kitchen, where Lucy’s prancing,
Prancing elegantly from station to,
Station to gather all ingredients for,
For a nutritious meal, giving you fuel,
Fuel to attain success in your day,
Day of conflict, within and without,
Without flaying under the pressure,
Pressure of navigating social endeavors,
Endeavors that need a will of steel,
Steel, like your strength, unlimited,
Unlimited by the dire press of a lack,
Lack of self-confidence that brings,
Brings you down into the depths,
Depths of the darkened abyss, a cave,
Cave of knotted bliss of doubt.

Gold Certificate of Poetic Excellence: Satan’s Bride

Satan’s Bride

The bride of Satan, dressed in white lace,
Covered neck, arms, wrist, and breast,
But her ‘come hither’ looks abound on her face,
Where her Blue sultry eyes twinkle and rest

On her next victim, whose naivety
Dumps them on a crest of eternal
Damnation, as she pouts her way
Into susceptible hearts that are flug into a stall

Of manure adored rest filled with the plague
Of depression’s harbor, as she seduces
Without rest, all those having an affinity to renege
On a contract, signed in blood, that produces

Regret of lost souls, pride, arrogance
As they imbibe of her nectar, and believe
Her spiel sermon of drivel, convince
Victims with her extraordinary beauty to leave

Them panting, unthinking, as they sign
On the dotted line unthinking of their living line.

Award of Appreciation

Tear Drop

Are you as invisible as ‘a drop in the ocean’,
Or are you ‘the entire ocean in a drop’?
If you feel insignificant, worthless, nugatory,
Then you’re letting the world define
You in ways that are superficial that cop-
Out, hiding who you are in a flurry

Of dichotomy that examplefies the self
In opposition to the other, needing to change
To integrate in a society filled with bias.
Visualize your being as a water drop full
Of hope, life, discipline, ethics that charge
Into a blind world that needs visionaries

Who start by expanding themselves, encompassing oceans
Simply by staying true to their standards.

Heart’s Key

Double acrostic

Healing, heavenly heart, reveal
Every window leading     Key that’s
Avariciously leaping into Every adventure
Relatively unscathed,       Yet, Hearts need adrenaline
To stave off the stagnation of status quo, resulting in
Siesmic depression, unless the key fits the heart.

Triple Platinum Certificate,  poem: Broken

Broken

She sits on the cold unforgiving ground,
Ground that has absorbed her bountiful tears,
Tears of a broken heart,
Heart that has seen too much loss,
Loss of family, spouse, innocence,
Innocence of the unaware of the world,
World gone mad from the needs,
Needs that are illogical, depraved,
Depraved in their unethical destructive,
Destructive nature of familial bonds,
Bonds that help communities grow,
Grow in compassion and humanity,
Humanity, that’s our commonality,
Commonality of blood and origin,
Origin in Adam, the first prophet,  man,
Man who made a mistake and fixed,
Fixed it for his progeny to prosper,
Prosper In an empty, arid land,
Land where possibilities are endlessly,
Endlessly varied for doing
Doing good or evil.
Evil that makes her ruminate,
Ruminate on her actions that’ve gotten,
Gotten her into her lonesome state,
State of depression, if she’s not careful,
Careful to an optimist working to achieve
Achieve her dreams without failed faith,
Faith that has driven depression into
Into its watery death in the river of her tears.

Dine on tabboule, curry,   gYros, pasta, burgers, sushi,
Include a sprinkling of      Teas and Turkish coffee
Vainly believing that  travelIng will make you
Even more open to  cultureS and races that sur-
Round you. Relieve       youR boredom with savory
Sensory outbursts that     Endavor to sparkle the palate
Intensifying your joy        Valiantly trying to be compassionate
To ‘otherness’ even through Incredible oppression they’ve
Yet to discern as being their Damnably real identity.

Silver Certificate,  poem: Eagles

What a great way to start my day!

The eagle’s flight is sacred to me, it represents freedom and breaking the bonds of social stricture. I wanted to get the idea across that an eagle never loses his self-confidence,  and, we, as humans, should look up into the sky for the example we want to follow.
