Gold Certificate of Achievement for my poem, Chiseled Face

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Chiseled Face

As I face the face on the wall,
Its chiseled, geometric form
At great odds with my rounder fall
Of jaw, cheekbones, wavy hair, crome

Colored eyes, show me a wall
Of grey sheets, strong, heavy
In its ability to crawl
To adventures in imagination’s wavy

Thought process, while the wall
Is 2D, unmoving, emotionless in prestine
Condition for a crazy ball
Where all that’s required is his presence, fine

In looks but empty for no thoughts on the wall
Except surviving, not living, and weathering
The changes in environments, a call
That brings out the eco-protector to come dancing.

As the writing on the face of the wall
Is eroded with time, so the face’s identity
Is erased like dust in a breeze that will
Hold you into its warmth and fly into memory.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem,  Pumpkin

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Pumpkin

Who am I?
I’m orange, oblong, striped,
And used by Cinderella’s
Fairy godmother in a chariot
Fit for a princess!

Who am I?
I’m still orange, some yellow,
Others green and pear like,
It’s used with a scarecrow
To scare off birds and scavengers, kite
Like in their freedom to perch, alone.

Who am I?
I’m the perfect accoutrement
To Thanksgiving dinners with
Joy, appreciation, laughter that comment
On the importance of being together with our breath
Mingling with loved ones in a moment we treasure.

Who am I?
I’m the unsung hero of Thanksgiving
Used in sweet and savory dishes
Used as a lamp for decoration of living
Homes who create a world of grinches,
Monsters, ghosts, and gools for entertaining.

Award of Appreciation for my poem, Patient,  Timeful Warriors

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Patient, Timeful Warriors

Patient time sidles around knowing,
Knowing that you’ll eventually learn,
Learn that warriors full of brute force,
Force that turns into violent regret,
Regret that eats away your happiness,
Happiness that dissolves as its transient,
Transient time comes and goes, waiting,
Waiting patiently like the intelligent warrior,
Warrior who strategizes using patience,
Patience for the right information and time,
Time that’s right to act not go in unknowing,
Unknowing the dangers, pitfalls sown
By the hands of enemies whose joy,
Joy will be untamable at your fall,
Fall from grace, for you forgot that time
Time and patience have always been chief survivors.

Certificate of Appreciation for my poem,

Thank you,  administrators,  for the accolade and your hard work.

Important Insignificance

The fox enveigled the cheese from the raven,
The child wheedles the cookies from parent,
The dog raises his puppy eyes and melts your heart.

The birds twitter and flutter coaxing attention,
The flower shyly moves its petals to receive
Its caresses from the sun’s rays: nutrition!

The man wads his wallet to empress,
While the woman wears her war paint as not to depress;
The elderly lament their youth, and try to cajole

Their kin into longer and more frequent visits.
While the individual struggles to beguile themselves
Into believing they’re valued more than they are!

Ironically,  they lack the vision to see their importance,
That drives jealousy in others in constant
Turmoil with themselves,  for those lack your presence!

Certificate of Appreciation for my poem, Time

Time

Nothing lasts forever except time,
Time that rhymes with grime,
Grime that distorts our beauty,
Beauty that’s transient,  never lasts in bevy
Bevy of buzzing bees whose sting
Sting is deadlier than any bombing,
Bombing of others to assert power,
Power that leads to atrocities of murder.
Murder or death will take us,
Us too quickly, for time flies,
Flies away As you stake,
Stake a name in this world,
World that demands your blood,
Blod, sweat, and money,
Money to live honorably, careening,
Careening swiftly in society,
Society that binds your values,
Values you live by to survive,
Survive the war of fleeting life.

First Place for a collaborative poem,

Thank you, administrators, for the honor and your hard work. Justice Kingsley, it was great working with you.

Building Bridges of Hope

Dusty roads and crowded streets,
Echo dreams with weary beats.
Hands once torn by toil and pain,
Now reach across the loss and strain.

Through power cuts and skies of grey,
Hope still finds a way to stay.
A hawker’s smile, a neighbor’s cheer,
Soft whispers drown the weight of fear.

No bridge too weak, no dream too small,
Together, we can rise from all.
With grit and love, we pave the way,
For brighter nights and fairer days.

Building a physical bridge
Is easy while bridging Stereotypes
Requires eons of activism in an age
Where using social media as capes

For their unruly behaviors
Spreading hate instead of compassion,
Understanding that colors
Your actions into the starvation

Of the soul’s need to integrate
As society breaks those bonds
In a bid to better control the story of hate,
To the aim of breaking bonds that holds.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem: Fiery Fall

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work.

Fiery Fall

Colors of fiery fall feed your
Feelings of fierce freedom
Flowing with the blowing,
Air around all aflurry,
In its need to breathe in
The sweetest air keeping you alive.

I let the fleeting breeze
Run up my sleeve, it
Sneaks up my armpit,
As easily as you please,
Surges through me, lifting,
Roaming around, finding pause
To circle, freely, around my breast,
Neck, and head. Stealth is best,
As I fly where the wind will rest.

As the sweeping air embraces
Me with its wonders,
I steal a peek, and my heart stutters,
At the fire leaping from the leaves,
Whose colors turn from yellow,
Burnished greens, rust, blood red,
Burgundy, all flit around my head
Leaping from tree top
To tree top, to bush, to flower,
To weed, to soil, nourishing
All with its slow hover
That steals your breath in awe
At the splendor of the fleeting fall critter.

Double Silver Certificate: Wormhole

Great thanks to the administrators whose hard work is always appreciated.  I’m honored they’ve chosen to present me with this accolade.

Wormhole

As the Wormhole siphones time,
It’s recycled and sent down for a prime
New look at what’s been done, as lime

Is sour and requires revisiting
Actions whose regret is culminating
In despair’s depression, hindering

All positive momentum. Stagnation
Halts your progress into a quagmire of rejection
Of all esthetics of developing a projection

Of change that surmounts captivating
Your potential, reigning in its joy, sunning,
Airing your problems, giving them wings, soaring

Into the azure skyline with birds, whose
Dire need for flight mirrors our soul’s
Urgent desire to relieve its cumbersome blows

Into a sea permitting you to see
The pivotal cacophony that clamors, like the bee
Buzzing to flee from the constraints that pee

On freedom’s liberating rebellion, key
To change and stomping on the caged monkey,
Man, who plays the ape to integrate into the sea.

Time to Do More

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

It feels like the world spins and flows like a river, unstoppable, and when it seems as though you don’t have enough time for everyone you love. As a nurturer and introvert, I bottle up my worries as I try, unsuccessfully, to take care of everyone’s needs before my own. The time, I would like to have is so that I can take care of myself better. That way, I can give more.

Sometimes, the world around you feels so oppressive that it stumps your ability to navigate a world that supports murder, death, and genocide of those weaker. That feeling carries into your home, blocking your capacity to be there for your family, as it drowns you, constantly, in visions of charred bodies, women, children, elderly, even infants in incubators die. How can I reconcile my compassionate nature with what I’m being asked to bear witness to?

How can I perform within my family when I’m bombarded by such visions of violent, thoughtless aggression against the innocent? Why is it that I have to witness peoples’ lack of humanity as they watch and do nothing?
