2 certificates in 2 days

The first is an acrostic poem titled: FORGIVENESS, while the second is titled: Glory’s Bower.

Glory’s Bower

Morning glory climbing vine,
Purple, violet, red, pink, or white,
Colors of a rainbow of hope
That delivers expansion and will grope
Your archway by making it fine!

As I run through its delicacy,
I note the difference in clemency
From one side to the other, as I bravely
Cross the framed beauties, cleverly
Hoping that the other side will have more mercy.

No more than an inch separates the bower
From the white picket gate, where a shower
Of light bathes the garden bed with a cover
Of verdant hues, that shame any painter.
As I cross into this splendor,

I note colors are sharper,
Each plant has its own area, a platter
Filled with diverse shapes, sizes, and sister,
It takes away your breath in a blinker
As you tinker with nature’s fauna that never cower

To either man or nature’s
Storms that are in never ending cycles
Of births and deaths, that keep hopes
Alive in every heart, as it shows justice’s
Plight, as it ends certain lifes.

Stay in your bower of morning
Glories and enjoy the perpetual crooning
Of an ecosystem in harmony, dancing!

FORGIVENESS

Forge your will in steal,
Outmaneuver your enemies, who feel,
Replete in knowing they’re the heel.
Give them your support when they fall,
Inspire them to be better than before.
View their progress and motivate before you bore,
Inverting foe to friend, like before.
Never lose hope for betterment
Even when all is stacked against you,
Simmer the anger, put logic to the forefront
Survive, learn, educate, that hope is never gone.

Flickering Flame Fly

‘Three things can never be taken back: a word
That’s spoken, an arrow speeding away from
its bowstring, and time that lapses.’*

As I look upon the candle flame,
Flame, I let reality drift into memories,
Memories good and bad alike, linger,
Linger with emotions that stomp.

Stomp out the flickering negativity,
Negativity, that drives you into a chasm,
Chasm, that festers in agony,
Agony of disappointment and betrayal.

Betrayal wrapped in honeyed words,
Words you can’t take back, flay,
Flay you open in twain. Obscuring,
Obscuring your light from shining,

Shining brighter than perfidy.
Perfidy of a stabbing arrow,
Arrow that starts feuds, wars,
Wars that bring death and destruction,

Destruction of lives, property, livelihoods,
Livelihoods that bring families, friends,
Friends and community to a stand-still.
Still that wee flame ignites passions, faith,

Faith that overcome the lapse,
Lapse of time, that flows like the sea,
Sea of time, that drowns each moment,
Moment in a flood that can’t be touched.

Let the flirting flame engulf your heart,
Heart with its heat and adulation to optimism.

*An Arabic saying, translated by the author inspired this poem, as well as the picture.

Mood dictates my music

What is your favorite genre of music?

If you’re like me, for every mood you find yourself in, you choose a different type of music. For me, when I’m happy and cheerful, I enjoy upbeat music that makes me move to its rhythm. When I’m upset, sad, depressed, I enjoy something calm, quiet, instrumental, or romantic.

So enjoy every mood with all the frills that come with each one.

Gratitude

How do you express your gratitude?

Depending on what I’m grateful for, I express it differently. When I’m grateful for a job well done, I express it by voicing my gratitude to those who helped achieve the goal. Otherwise, when I’m just expressing gratitude for the things that are given to me, hearing, smell, vision, taste buds, limbs, health, intelligence, and others, I turn my gratitude to God who gave us more than we deserve.

I feel that God has a hand in all the things that I do, even my success and family, as without his Godly gifts to fall back on, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the things that I have. That’s why, most of my gratitude is directly to Him, via prayer.

Sweats

If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

After Covid, we became lazy and only wanted our comfort today, so, yes, I’d wear sweats over and over again. However, that doesn’t mean that I’ll not alter the colors nor forgo my usual style that goes hand in hand with comfort, color, color, and more color. That is all it takes for me to feel better!

Oh Father

Farther, frantic, frivolous, funny
Arbitrary, amazing, amorous, angry
Terrified, terrific, tutor, tumble, true
Healing, hearty, heavenly, hotheaded
Embrace, empower, enormous, encouraging
Rare, rowdy, resolute, resolved, remembered

All of these and more apply to a Father.
A day a year is never enough to appreciate
All he does for his family.
Sacrifice is his middle name,
Silent support is his first,
Power and strength are his last name,
A pillar of wisdom is his endgame.

Honesty and support

What quality do you value most in a friend?

The most important qualities in a friend, to me, are honesty and unfailing support no matter the situation. Those 2 are the building blocks of true friendships, for then, acceptance of faults and misbehavior become easily explainable and forgivable.

Friends

Fiendishly friendly, forever fearless, fever
Reverent, relief, reliable, readier
Involved, immovable, impossible, independent,
Empower, everlasting, encouraging, endearing,
Needing not lonely, knowing, negotiation,
Decisive, dragon-like, dangerous,
Solid, sturdy, subtle, spoken, spontaneous,

All are parts of being friends,
So much more there is that’s unbearable
Without them, as secrecy, lies, and envy
Have become the norm, while friends
Have become a rare commodity
Whose currency is spiteful and speaks
Loudly of material gain instead of friends.

Honorable Mention!

The poem:

Of All the Masks we wear

The masks we wear help us hide
Those parts that are vulnerable
Until the fear of being hurt fade.
It secretes your emotions to keep away trouble.

How do you conceal who you are?
How many facets do you portray?
How bearable is life without it thus far?
How is the fear of being exposed flay?

Those answers are subjective and need
Time to elucidate the importance of trust
That is reciprocated and revered.
Balance your fear and your extrovert in a bust

That embodies fears, ambitions, and beliefs
That make it difficult to be a part of the streams.

Life’s a bitch, and then you die

Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

So if ‘life’s a bitch, and then you die,’ you might as well enjoy it while you can.  That doesn’t mean you can live only the way you want, uncaring about others.  No, no, this means, that you enjoy each moment of fun by celebrating and appreciating it. Plus, any moments of sorrow and hurt, let them be your building blocks of strength. Yes, life’s unfair and can give you ‘lemons ‘, that doesn’t mean it can’t be bright, fun, and amazing. You only need to change your perspective to see it from a different angle.

Enjoy what you’re given, and own it.

Publishing Perfectly Flawed, poetry for change

When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?

I took a risk by publishing my poetry book during covid. That’s when we were under lockdown, and there were no book signings or shows to participate in. The result was no book sales, but I did my message out, and have a good following to show for my work.

A poetry book divided into 3 themes: Relationships, Social/ postcolonial criticism, Self-awareness/ growing.
