Reading, writing, nurturing, helping, and cooking

Share five things you’re good at.

I’m great at helping others in the fields. I feel I have a certain expertise, like listening to others’ likes and implementing them, especially if it has to with cooking or baking. The latter is, at times, a therapeutic form of stress relief, where I get to chop things and bludgeon the dough into submission 😀. I’m generally a great listener, except when someone is stubbornly narrow-minded, then i prefer not to converse or listen to them.

As an MA holder in English Literature, I l9ve to read, the more varied the better. I also write opinions, editing of thesis, poetry, and judging different types of books: novels, anthologies, and poetry. When it comes to my writing, I know I’m verbose, visual, and descriptive, which help when I feel stuck while I write. I like taking a detour in my writing before completing my original ideas.

As a daughter, wife, and mother, I love nurturing those I believe are mine! They all enjoy their food more when I make it, even if it’s a lowly sandwich 🥪 😋!

I’m an excellent helper to those who ask for it, or not, as I insert my services without being asked. That can lead to problems with some people, apparently! But, I don’t know why!

My poetry book, Perfectly Flawed poetry for change, raises a variety of themes that are humane in nature: relationships, postcolonial/ social criticism, self-awareness/ growth.

Time to Do More

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

It feels like the world spins and flows like a river, unstoppable, and when it seems as though you don’t have enough time for everyone you love. As a nurturer and introvert, I bottle up my worries as I try, unsuccessfully, to take care of everyone’s needs before my own. The time, I would like to have is so that I can take care of myself better. That way, I can give more.

Sometimes, the world around you feels so oppressive that it stumps your ability to navigate a world that supports murder, death, and genocide of those weaker. That feeling carries into your home, blocking your capacity to be there for your family, as it drowns you, constantly, in visions of charred bodies, women, children, elderly, even infants in incubators die. How can I reconcile my compassionate nature with what I’m being asked to bear witness to?

How can I perform within my family when I’m bombarded by such visions of violent, thoughtless aggression against the innocent? Why is it that I have to witness peoples’ lack of humanity as they watch and do nothing?

Read, write, and think

If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

The time I’d spend sleeping would be used for deeper thought processes, which lead to better writing, especially poetry, as it’s best done while at rest. Reading, whether news, novel, or books on belief systems, assessing and comparing them to my values, is another way for me to understand others. Moreover, by thinking and writing about them, I can get my feelings across and help others see a different perspective.

German Shepherd

What are your favorite animals?

I used to hate dogs as a child, as our guard dog, a Doberman, at the time, hat been out of his cage without my knowledge. It was a special day, I was wearing a red skirt and white top, with 2 brown braids over my shoulders. I ran into the yard, excited, speaking loudly to be heard over the sound of my siblings’ loud voices, suddenly, I felt a huge weight on my shoulders, and a heavy breath exhaling, as the dog quickly snapped on my braids. I screamed and ran, unknowing he’d be right behind me! A friend caught me by the arm and moved me out of the dog’s way, as something else attracted its attention. Since then, I’ve always been scared of dog’s, till we got our GSD, puppy Zeus. We was so tiny, a ball of affection, but nippy. He became my protector and was jealous of my husband if he came close to me. Zeus would move his entire cage to get to me if he felt I was unhappy or threatened.

From then on, I have a loving relationship with GSDs. The picture is of our current GSD, Sly, taking a well-earned moment after chasing a ball!

Prison and/ or Liberty

“I, a bird from a confined prison, sings for liberation because of the death of liberty.” Mayyu Hamim

When the power of the pen is stronger than the image it represents, people start accepting their confined prison as their only reality.  However, when a people have been confined for decades, their only recourse is no longer humanity’s humanitarian help, but rather a spiritual one, where they rely on justice in the afterlife instead of that of politicians.

For all those who’ve been murdered unnecessarily in Congo, Somalia, Palestine, Bosnia/ Herzegovina, India, Rohinga, and many more, our hearts are bleeding with yours. Plus, if my only contribution is a word, poem, or comment here or there, excuse my powerlessness in the face of global economies that rule our world.

I’m reviewing several books

What book are you reading right now?

I’m reviewing several books: poetry and short story anthologies. I’m enjoying the variety in writing styles and perspectives. I’m a bookworm who writes poetry and her opinion, freely, trying to be as honest as possible. Reading is my gateway to a world of unknowns that makes more sense in writing as it feels as though it has logic behind it.

My book: Perfectly Flawed poetry for change is poetry that critiques colonialism,  injustice,  and fosters self-worth and growth.

Cleaning the breakfast table, Ironing

What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

I hate clearing and cleaning the breakfast/ lunch/ dinner table as it’s always in use, and if each person leaves 1 object behind, that makes for 5 things to pit back!!!!

Another thing I hate is ironing. I know it’s not always a daily routine thing, but I delay it until I have a huge pile I want to continue to ignore!

Births

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

The years I’d relive are the births of my babies. Each was special in their own way, but with my first, the adjustment to having a baby and other responsibilities made the enjoyment of the experience limited in that my body needed rest and had to adjust to a lot of changes at once. So yes, I’d love to revisit each birth individually and appreciate each miracle of birth and motherhood with less demands on my time.

My poetry book: Perfectly Flawed poetry for change is available at Amazon.com, iTunes, Googlebooks, Barnes and noble, Kindle, and Kobo.

History of the Victor

What historical event fascinates you the most?

Each historical event is told from the victor’s perspective. That, unfortunately, always overlooks the degradation, destruction, inhumane treatment of the ‘other’, and the installation of a way of thinking that reduces the aggressed to a creature that lacks human characteristics. Examples of this are historically documented, from the Romans, Moguls, British, French, and more recently German, Russia, and Israel. They all invaded, divided, conquered, then they leave with their stamp that is un-erasable, as they instill a belief in the conquered that they are less than the conqueror in: civilization, language, religion, knowledge…

I’d like a version of history that’s unbiased, just, honest in its retelling of historical facts and events that occurred, rather than the beautified/ bastardized versions taught in schools that promote and propagate the conqueror’s agenda.

Zero Dollars

How much would you pay to go to the moon?

I wouldn’t pay a dime to travel to the moon, as I would prefer to use the money towards helping displaced refugees, especially children affected by the traumas of what they are escaping.
