For me, Nostalgia comes with a variety of smells, sounds, especially children’s laughter, all have a soothing effect on me as well as remind me to appreciate what I do have now, in the present time.

Sitting on the tip of the crescent moon Dangling my legs, pushing off, swinging As though the moon embraced me in a cocoon Of life’s laughter, lighter than lightning,
Brighter than the stars’ brilliance, A comforter of the soul closer To heaven’s doors, seating, no coincidence That the moon hovers, never a loser,
But changes everyday in looks From crescent to full moon, Each highlights its own beautiful hooks That enliven hope like a boon,
A boon from GOD to humanity, A circle of dazzling blessings Enrobing my imagination’s memory, flowy Possibilities into dreams, not guessings,
No certainty that the light of poetry shines To guide my plight into a roadmap Of strength built on patience, never fines Me more than I can conquer in a lap.
As I swing on memories that mirror My plight of losses that that flow Like the changes in the moon, a bower For rest as I swing on the crescent’s glow.

Symphony of Summer
Scintillating summer days are upon us, Here to stay for a season of togetherness When play in the yard, park, are on display, When age, gender, race hold no sway
For play is the Orchestra of life That shimmers against strife, Children play, adults converse, Elderly lean on each other creating a verse
Of poetic flow ringing in harmony Lest summer ends without happy Peaceful play parading for all To showcase the rhythm that’ll call
Everyone to emulate, for summer Is transient, and it’s joyful heralder Will hibernate, than wake to its Musical vibes drowning out the pits.

Letter to self
Dear Laughter of my Innocence,
I have come to note that my laughter has diminished, and I wonder where it has flown to. All I can remember is that:
“Laughter, in its purest form, innocence, clarity, Should be revered faithfully as its transience
And its arrival are as tangible as smoke Clouds dispersed by the lightest breeze. Savor these moments of piety in the stroke Of a sizzling laugh and let the memory Freeze.”
Chehab, Malak Kalmoni, ‘Laughter, Brightens My World’, Perfectly Flawed, 2021.
When I think on all the times I’ve let myself down by ignoring my laugh, I shudder at the wasted time. I will advise that you/me bottle up the laughter of your innocence and bring it out into a world so dark, it needs the cheer of such a joyful sound, to lift it from the quagmire of worries we steep ourselves in. Join me in laughing away your worries. Place each worry in a box bound by the sound of your guffaw. It then buries that anxiety for you to look at later, when you’re calmer, less volatile, more logical, and can make sounder decisions. Laughter will always be your savior, whether you use it as your arsenal to make life better is up to you. But know, that today, there are therapies based on Laughter, UNC: course in comedy and ethics, laughing yoga, and laughing martial arts. Because of that, I wonder why we haven’t excavated this secret earlier. Fill your heart with joy and let it lead you into a brighter tomorrow.

Clipity- Clop
Itty bitty feet run around In a clamor of clip-clops That resonate in echoes that abound In a round of clapping shrieking pops
That reverberate with laughter That lightens the heart of burdens And a heaviness that cower When faced with the merry melody of laughter.
Let your Itty bitty feet lead, Lead you into mischief and solve Your way out of problems that feed Your will to be cheery when faced by laws above
Of society that set limitations, in isolation, For some, while others run amuck. Let your glee flee the deadened quiet of conventions By proving your worth with mirth that gets you unstuck.

Frozen Frame
In a perfect sphere, where, in the snow Falls in perfect harmony, gathering family Feasting, playing, with nothing contrary, Only fun in the peaceful snowy glow.
The scene is set, The people prepped, The table bent, The children are a heavenly send.
The frozen frame is icy, Covered in white powder whose Calm settles into old bones, Where memory is alive, but dicey!
For the child, it’s the here and now That matters, while all else Is icing on a cake, where the candle will blow, And family is always best when many are less
And the anticipation of guessing What’s in the box is filled with laughter As outrageous ideas are a pleasing Game that ends chortling giggler.
The frame is never lame, It set the bar very high for following Years, as its innocence came With its childhood’s naive framing.

My mom’s laughter is a rare thing to be heard, so when she laughs, I listen and bask in her joy. However, when my children and I are gathered together and someone does or says something funny, they go to extreme laughter, which induces belly laughs, that are contagious and bring on tears.
