Accolade for my poem: Speedy Skateboard

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work,

Speedy Skateboard

In his jeans, tee, and baseball cap,
He skates around the city freely,
Going down streets, stairs, jumping fearlessly
Over obstacles, people, pets that hop

Through hoops and loops
Trying to survive a world of violence
That imposes the rule of the jungle, a case
For survival of the fittest, fastest pops

That skitter arrogantly on wheels
Of steel and rubber, faithfully turning,
Eating distances without reading,
As books aren’t what he needs to learn, but feels

That he has to engage in conversation
With neighbors, peers, around parks
Streets, compounds of cement peaks
As he streaks past couples, whose compassion

Lend others a hand when needed,
The elderly who need but a smile,
The children needing games that file
The pressure into a pile of garbage, led

By imagination’s growth through
Piously making use of its power
To creatively solve problem, never cower
As they speed through life in a cue.

Accolade and Review for my poem: Home of Books

Thank you, administrators, for the accolade and your hard work. Thank you for the support,  critique, and wonderful reviews

Home of Books

Sitting where books have found a home,
Home where each level is a mirror,
Mirror to an ancient exotic world,
World whose magical depiction,
Depiction of tyrants, kings, nobles,
Nobles who’ve persecuted races,
Races turned into slaves,
Slaves whose musical lyrics,
Lyrics filled with the need for freedom,
Freedom and rebellion against,

….

… ,  but,
But tries to stay steadfast to,
To traditions that hold discipline,
Discipline and ethics striving,
Striving to Revive that books,
Books are a haven,
Haven for the broken soul,
Soul that thirsts for knowledge.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem, international writer day

Thank you, administrators, for the honor and your hard work.

International Writer’s Day
Acrostic

Internet has facilitated global connections
Never stop the growth of  wrIters
That rend their hearts as    theIr words flow
Empowering the weak to
Remember their worth
Never succumbing to oppression’s
Timely propagation that    cleAves
Intimate family                   meMbers into
Open enemity, clearly ‘Dividing & Conquering’
Needlessly aggressive, destructive,
Avid in mercilessly taking resources And
Leaving nothing to the Indigenous peoples.

Write, revel, rebel, roast, rumble the gruesome
Reality of a world built on Materialism
Instead of unity of humanity       peeP
That lends compassion and     succOr that
Eventually works together against thE oppressor
Ruining the ecology,                 separaTing family,
Solidifying Darwin’s rules of supremacy

Dealing in strength that overpowers others
Amid illegal, inhumane practices that have
Yet to be punished.

Rights: home

What does freedom mean to you?

To me, freedom equals having a home and family that endure under the obstacles of life. When I say home, I mean the people who occupy the house, family unit that could be related by blood or not. It’s one of those rights that give emotional and physical security in order to be ambitious in life and strive to improve your material or social status. Yes, that is a very colonial perspective,  but then I witnessed 2 civil wars as a child, lived in 3 continents,  all before I turned 12. Perhaps colonialism also taught me to appreciate my home because I had to rebuild it so many times in my 5 decades plus of life.

Home?

Where is home?
What is home?

These questions circle
Ceaselessly and kindle

The quest for answers for:
Where and what is home for?

I’ve immigrated to three
Continents searching for thee.

Why do you hide from me?
Why do you flee and oblige me

To search you out in lands gone mad?
How is that fair on a child who feels bad?

From the tropics to the Mediterranean,
To North America, in search of what you mean.

The child in me
Misses the simplicity of love,

Laughter that is innate,
But shaken with wars and fate,

That take away all joy and faith
In a moment of stolen breath.

Embrace the joy you’re given,
For tomorrow may bring hell or heaven.

Tennis and ski

What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?

Why those 2 you ask? Well simple really, I loved playing those sports and white I watch,  I feel the exhiliration of a strategically placed ball that ends up being a winner. As for ski, I can imagine feeling the speed, the wind, the icy feel of the snow, the danger of a fall, all the while embracing the beauty of the freedom it gives as you ski downhill.

Two Certificates of Excellence, Feast’s Unity & Jailed Wine

Feast’s Unity

Crave the jubilation of feasting,
every religious ceremony that binds
lonely souls into a community
even if they are racially, culturally different,
but, all enemity is set aside when celebrating the
revival of humanity’s compassionate understanding.
arrows from Cupid’s bow hits its
target and transforms aggression
into love, friendship, jubilation,
owning that positivity, propagating it, and
never letting pessimism or negativity
spring into the forefront without a care,

And only those ungenerous with their humanity
forgo gatherings that uplift the soul.

jumping into the fray, with all the
overgrown children’s merriment
Yields a time filled with astounding wonder.

Jailed Wine

The wine flute, amber colored,
Glistens in the light twighlight, caged,
Jailed in a bird cage, vainly
Trying not to succomb to the dainty
Elixir of fire that has become
The world’s addiction to overcome

Insecurities, depression, isolation
Amidst the many, as she, elegant sophistication,
Carries the caged wine, daintily
Trying not to spill its contents, precisely
Measured for the utmost enjoyment,
As she crosses the sands of time in bewilderment.

Bright Darkness

The soulless soul seeps into the sewers

Hiding, in hindsight, from historic hatefulness

Heaving the heavy heart into the whole

Whose empty empathy embarks on evil’s espousal.

The darkness drives deep despair, hollow.

Wishing for the weight to endow you with power

That lights the living loving locations, landing

On all that’s heavy, eviscerating it’s emptiness into brightness.

Brilliantly bright spirit of the night

Shine your hopes, colors, freedoms, and love

Into all whose darkness is encompassing the light.

Let the waves and wind blow away the cobwebs

Of emptiness, replacing them with a dove’s

Soaring aspirations, imagination, and freedoms.
