For one of my poems using a quote from Desmond Tutu about hope.
My poetry book, Perfectly Flawed poetry for change, combines themes about relationships, postcolonialism/ social criticism, and self-perception/ awareness/ growth.
I’m flabbergasted by the honor of this certificate for my poem: Athena, based on a picture prompt.
Athena
Her resplendent beauty gleams In the raven sky, her star shines Brighter with her golden armor, protective Of her vulnerabilities, as she needs to survive. Its glow is there to strive To outlast the unbeliever who stirs the hive.
Her might glistens and reverberates Throughout her vicinity, vindictive as it propels Instability, division, dissention, and war! Booming war cries echo their strengths, none bar Her entry, as she subjugates those weaker Through fear and magic of her glittery armor.
Those whose insolence is hidden behind their Camouflage of piety, are two, three faced, where They keep their dissonance locked, So their perfidy is unexpected, And the humbleness nothing but beguiled Discourse that pleases the open hearted.
Beware of those wearing lambskin, But are in reality cutthroats whose noggin Is an empty shell that requires It to be filled by others to act out wars.
I’ve had an amazing week with one of my poems being published in an anthology, Unsealed Your Greatness (Link: https://amzn.to/47RpSFt), another got an honorable mention, had my 30th wedding anniversary, and writing book reviews for Canadian Authors. So, I feel in my element, reading, writing, creating, and loving it!
The lightest touch Of soft lips that blot Out the world in a single brush Of velvety skin mesmerizing Thoughts into emotions Of focused adoration That binds.
Filaments of love Grow in a perpetual Movement of exponential growth, When two become one, and They, in turn, become A family, where Kisses vary.
Many loves Abound around us Filling our lives with motivations, And supremacy in emotional Balance That renders Us better able to Love freely.
Enclosed is an exert of the poem to wet your appetite for more!
My Powers
Believing in yourself is the first Step to building strength that doesn’t rest.
Then, listening to others, not needing To participate, being unjudgemental, hearing What others need, interject, harboring Your doubts and advice so as not harming.
Speak my mind, state my faith, Being proud of my achievements whose…
Faith and belief are the core Of my power to never bore, …
My scars, those that society frowns Upon, are my badges of honor, survivals, Will, and mind over matters That seem trivial in light of my powers.
