Writing, mothering, and cooking

Do you enjoy your job?

To me, none of the above are any less important than the other. While writing helps me express myself, my opinion on what’s happening in the world, my wonder about life, my frustrations on injustices, and much more, might seem to some of greater importance than being a mother, daughter, wife, cook, and friend to all. Yes, there’s a balancing act that needs to be placed so that none are priorotized above family needs. For me, my family is my rock that supports and encourages me to write without fear. The latter took time to become innate, but I believe it’s there now.

So, to answer the question, yes, I enjoy all my jobs, although some are more draining than others, but each is special to me.

A time that’s unproductive

What bores you?

Being unproductive not only bores me but also lets me think too deeply. So I make myself busy, reading, writing, cooking, walking the dog, and mostly talking to family. So I bake: Pecan pie!

Share it

You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

Without having someone share in the joy of the news, it falls flat and becomes irrelevant. The second thing I’d do is thank God for His help in achieving my goal, news.

Tennis

What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

I used to love playing tennis before I had my bowl obstruction surgery. I had great technique, according to our trainer and my husband. I enjoyed playing the winning points that were geometric and corners of the court. I’d feel the need to pump up my arms in victory each time I’d win the point, especially if I’m playing against a very competitive soul who hates loosing!

Now, I’m relegated to only watching the game, either on TV or stadium, ad the game requires the use of abs that I’m not allowed to exercise for fear Of a return Of my condition. Still, while watching, I like to cheer the underdog and a great winning point!

Discipline

If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Rules and discipline are for Sly, our GSD, like candy is to be eaten. He chews out the rules, trying to break them by being cute, cuddly, and loving. When he’s like that, I forget to enforce the rules!

Malak, angel

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

My first name is Malāk, in Arabic, it means angel. There are several variations to the name, Malika means queen, while Malek means king. Malak, with a short second a, is also a female name, meaning owner.

Malak- Accrostic

Marvelously mysterious

Amazingly amorous,

Lovingly, loyally laborious,

Ably available, rarely angry,

Knit kids and knock kings down to become kingly.

Good leader

What makes a good leader?

A good leader needs to be selfless while making decisions for the benefit of others, his subordinates, or the people he’s responsible for. Leaders have the ability to take responsibility for the decisions they make, even baring the brunt of both negative and positive consequences of their actions. They are also compassionate but disciplined, give and take when necessary, and understand within limits of professionalism.

Unfortunately, today’s political leaders fall short of these qualities, as they think in terms of their own power: political and financial.

German Shephard

What is your favorite animal?

Sly, the GSD, is my favorite animal, not only because he’s our pet, but because his character is as sly as can be, loving, cuddly, but extremely protective. Mostly, if anyone he doesn’t know approaches my daughters, he’s immediately ready to attack. He loves to play in the snow and behaves like a gentle baby, while amongst us.

Infinite possibilities

What could you do differently?

If we had hindsight, we’d do many things very differently. However, life doesn’t give you any makeovers, so if you fall into the infinite possibilities of different actions you could have taken, you’ll fall into the abyss of second-guessing your decisions. That will invariably turn into not making a decision at all, making you stagnate in place and never move forward. This is a hard lesson to learn and implement, but it’s worth it. When you reach a place where you can learn from the decisions you make, face the issues and move forward, then, and only then, can you face making decisions knowing that you might have to revisit it.

Places, people, and events

What makes you feel nostalgic?

As the new year approaches, you look back and realize that you’ve grown as an individual, while others are stuck in a rut. As I remember my past obstacles and breakthroughs, I recall my childhood holidays filled with aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and friends gathering under 1 roof. The noise, laughs, cries of fear for a too mischievous child were part of the atmosphere of unity.

Today, only a few hours remain for a brand new year to start, a blank slate, maybe?

Never.

Life is cumulative, and there’s always context for actions and reactions. I wish for simplicity in life to return, where actions don’t need to have double or triple meanings, but where honesty, love, peace, and equality are the only values that are enacted by all.
