Diploma Certificate for my poem,  Giggle’s Memory

Thank you,  administrators,  for the honor and your hard work.

Giggle’s Memory

A smile, a laugh, a memory, a thought,
All coalesce into memorable visions,
Sounds that light up your darkest thought.

My baby’s laughter as a child, adult now,
Continues to not only brighten my days
But also is an effective antidepressant taking a bow.

As the memory of her tinkling laugh
Spreads an inner peace in my breast,
I fall back into envisioning the day she was born. Enough

Time has passed, but her musical
Laugh has evolved from giggle
To full blown belly laughs that bubble

But never pop as her optimism
Isn’t a prop, rather its centered in faith,
Bound by our love that enveloped her in grim

Strength to suppress all that can
Depress. She rises above difficulties
With a smile that shines like the moon
On foggy, oppressive raven black, nights

That simply disperse as her laugh lights
The sky with power of brightness
That never dims in all the time it casts.

Certificate of Excellence for my poem: Mom, Habibti

Thank you,  administrators, for the honor and your hard work.  This poem is very close to my heart since it’s about mother’s and our fears.

Mom, Habibti

Mother, moma, mum, mama,
Who are you?
Are you just the giver of life?

Mom, madre, mami, mam, ma,
What would you do to protect your babe?
Legal or nefarious means?

Mother, oumi, mama, Haha, mà,
How do you love equally all your babe?
Do you prefer one over another? Why?

Mam, nanay, habibti, ema, mamma,
How do you empower all your babe?
Do you compare them and demean some?

Mami, mother, mom, love, Ema,
Love me for me!
Never send me away or leave me!

Mum, mother, maman, madre, Ema,
Don’t break my heart to leave,
Don’t break my heart and hate me!

Diploma Certificate for my poem, Pose

Thank you, administrators, for the honor and your hard work.

Pose?

To pose or not to pose?
That’s the question on this day of non-repose.
She stands, elegant,  regal,
Smiling into his chocolaty eyes, fall,
Falling into his soothing pool of love.

The depth of emotions that hiss
And run deeper than any abyss,
This moment in time will never come
Back again, for its novelty’ll dim
But never die in the pyre of time,

It’ll grow and flow into their
Joint lives of adoration as their
Tears of joy and sadness blend
Into sysmic waves that thrashed
Many a couple, but Not them!

Time will try to siphon their
Joint time into darkness, but their care
Will stomp on time’s vain
Attempt to suck out the rain
Turning it into a melodic refrain.

Holding my baby

Describe one of your favorite moments.

I waited 9 months to meet her. Through my swollen belly, cramps, hot flashes, sweats, and excruciating pain, I finally got to hold her, Fida is her name. She’ll be 29 at the end of August, but the second she was placed in my arms, she became all mine. Her smell, her tiny fingers, toes, arms, tummy, diapers, and sweet voice. Even when she cried, she was quiet, calm, and too cute for her own good. She made me a mother, teacher, friend, mentor, who surpassed her loving mother.

That moment is still ingrained in my heart and mind. I take it out when I’m down, peruse the happiness, joy, fear, and the miracle of birth, and know that the world will make a positive turn, in which it will revere the family unit, it’s simplicity and loyalty.
