Mood dictates my music

What is your favorite genre of music?

If you’re like me, for every mood you find yourself in, you choose a different type of music. For me, when I’m happy and cheerful, I enjoy upbeat music that makes me move to its rhythm. When I’m upset, sad, depressed, I enjoy something calm, quiet, instrumental, or romantic.

So enjoy every mood with all the frills that come with each one.

Gratitude

How do you express your gratitude?

Depending on what I’m grateful for, I express it differently. When I’m grateful for a job well done, I express it by voicing my gratitude to those who helped achieve the goal. Otherwise, when I’m just expressing gratitude for the things that are given to me, hearing, smell, vision, taste buds, limbs, health, intelligence, and others, I turn my gratitude to God who gave us more than we deserve.

I feel that God has a hand in all the things that I do, even my success and family, as without his Godly gifts to fall back on, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the things that I have. That’s why, most of my gratitude is directly to Him, via prayer.

Sweats

If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

After Covid, we became lazy and only wanted our comfort today, so, yes, I’d wear sweats over and over again. However, that doesn’t mean that I’ll not alter the colors nor forgo my usual style that goes hand in hand with comfort, color, color, and more color. That is all it takes for me to feel better!

Carmen, Gypsy Queen

Her sensuality entrances,
Her movements’ elegance attracts,
Her swirls and twirls riveting
In their quest to be enchanting.

Her steps, stomps, and jumps,
Each emanating from her soul’s
Foray into the unknown, untraditional,
As she appropriates formal steps for male

Adds her feminine flair,
Her golpe, stomp, louder, stronger,
And original, while her Latigo,
The whipping of her toe

Flies through her body like
Electricity, jumping from joints’ stake
To vessels with passions ornate
In their effect on the audience, elate

In acceptance that Carmen will
Live on, in her form, moves, still,
Memory serves , placing her on
A pedestal,  difficult to reach as yon don

Your war paint, trying to face
Life with a vigor that today has lost its place.

Never give up

What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

I’m tenacious about things I believe in. Plus, if I know I’m capable of achieving a goal, I work hard, even if it means I fail several times before attaining my objective. Case in point, my writing!

Oh Father

Farther, frantic, frivolous, funny
Arbitrary, amazing, amorous, angry
Terrified, terrific, tutor, tumble, true
Healing, hearty, heavenly, hotheaded
Embrace, empower, enormous, encouraging
Rare, rowdy, resolute, resolved, remembered

All of these and more apply to a Father.
A day a year is never enough to appreciate
All he does for his family.
Sacrifice is his middle name,
Silent support is his first,
Power and strength are his last name,
A pillar of wisdom is his endgame.

Autumn, fall

What is your favorite season of year? Why?

It’s the season when leaves fall and the changing colors in the scenery is breathtaking. The reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and greens are such a wondrous eye opener for the time when things fall, they then take the time to slumber, rejuvenate, and soak up nutrients of the fall. Never fear, after each fall, there’s a renewal that’s even more astounding in its diversity that calls itself mother nature.

Love its moods, strengths, and giving nature that gives us clean air, beauty, and a healthy respect for mother’s power over us.

Dream chocolate bar

Describe your dream chocolate bar.

I’m already salivating just thinking about it!  The chocolate has to have a smooth, rich taste that coats your tongue, leaving an after taste of cocoa sweetness that will keep my happy endorphins doing cartwheels. When I’m craving chocolate,  I prefer it to have no other aromas or tastes added to it, or it will take away from the flavor of the chocolate.

I’ve always been like a kid at the candy store when I search for just the right choice of chocolate bar when I need it most. That’s why I’ve written an Accrostic poem for CHOCOLATE

CHOCOLATE

Crave choco’s chocolate, Having a hit is heavenly indeed Over the open bar Covered in crumbs of chocolate, the Overely delicate flavor Leaves nothing to be desired. Ate, eat, happily jumping Through the hoops of a sugar high while Every child, man, and woman love their chocolate fix.

Public speaking

What fears have you overcome and how?

As a mother, I wanted to have the right tools to better raise my kids, so I went back to university and got a BA in English Literature, a Teaching Diploma, and an MA in Comparative English Literature. For me, all 3 were a way to increase my knowledge, academic, psychology, teaching, and being a better mother. The degrees opened the window for knowledge acquisition, and I moved beyond the academic by becoming a teacher, afraid of being in front of a classroom. My fear was centered around public speaking, not teaching per se, which was a relief. The fact that I was able to connect with my students and have a meaningful relationship with my kids helped get out of my comfort zone. I’m still shy and prefer being in my own head, especially after I started writing, but my fear has been put to rest, thankfully.

Nurturer, mother, teacher, and writer

What are you good at?

The first 3 have the same base, that of a nurturer. I love having people around enjoying a welcoming and comfortable ambiance that’s conductive to discussions. I also love being a mother, as there’s a great amount of give and take, learning and teaching that takes place in that type of relationship. Mostly, I love giving out hugs to all my babies and extended Family, mostly ;).

As for teaching, it combines the above 2 and taught me that friendship comes in all shapes, sizes, and ages. Some of my students continue to text me after over a decade having gone by. The best feeling as a teacher is knowing you’ve connected with your students and built a rapport that lasts.

Finally, my writing comes from the above 3, as I’m an introvert who has difficulty saying the right thing in a conversation, so I relegate my feelings and observations to my writing.
