Reflection’s Refraction?
Mirror, mirror, ‘Who am I looking at?’
Is that face, mouth, nose, all mine?
Mirror, what do you see when you look at
Me? Is it just my beauty and thine?
Have I no substance in your mind?
Haven’t you born witness to the depth
I hide behind the broken smile that’ll find
A hidden maze to secrete screctets in a breath
That creates a brume on your shiny
Expanse? Does it fog my reflection
Of a life lived, enjoyed, even chose empathy
For the plight of others under destruction?
As the image is reflected back at me,
I wonder on the choices I made,
The trajectory I took, is what has come
To be a reflection or refraction of things that fade?
