I sit up, Look up, Firing my appreciation To God, in whose contemplation, Veneration, I’m engrossed In my thanks to all that I’ve got, that’s on the spot: Family to love and cherish, Kin to pray and think of me as I perish, Friends who’ll miss my presence, As our discussions cover matters that hence Ruminate over social changes Trending through social media’s Imposing pressure over all genders And age groups who’ve surrenders Their freedom to bondage Of our sovereignty over our charge: Our immortal soul, whose barred From its morality, replaced By being led to sins that destroy Your connection to the all mighty, a ploy, To reduce believers that rebel against sins of plurality.

As a lone yellowed leaf, I remain, Hanging precariously onto the branch, Looking onto the ground, where my vain Friends have all fallen while greenish, now, out of reach,
They lay on the fallow earth Blanketing it with their dried crunch, As passerby ignore their presence ignoring the cloth That beautified nature, as they stomp them in a bunch.
Lonely, alone, my tears fall unnoticed As I try to mourn all I’ve lost: Friends whose radiance has died, Family whose love has extinguished and thrust
Me, alone, in an unforgiving world, Where what once was is easily forgotten, While all those empty voices rise in a cold Empty entourage who’s lost compassion and been
Swamped with the material world, Living in solitary confinement, On a schedule that bind More then prison bars in an accoutrement
To integration in a society, powerless To make a change in their community As technology and self-isolation progress Towards being captivated by superficiality
Of surviving rather than living In faith, hope, their power and force, Naturally protect believers in believing In the existence of hope and communal peace.

Eid Mubarak to all, may peace, prosperity, health, and happiness follow your footsteps.
Eid, for me, is highlighted by gatherings of family and friends in order to mark this holy day. With people, we always have food, of course! Today is no exception. Desserts consisting of a butter cookie, ghraibeh, and semolina cookies stuffed with either dates or walnuts.

I’m on vacation for the first time in almost 4 years. Finally, I’m visiting my hometown and feeling extremely emotional about uniting with family and friends. Covid created a social anxiety about connecting with people that it’s been over 3 years that I haven’t seen them, especially with me living across the ocean in Canada, and they live in Lebanon!
The best thing about visiting home is seeing those you’ve missed, and the difference in the city itself: new shops, restaurants, cafes and more. The beauty of the sea at sunset, smells, and sounds that I associate with home: blaring horns, nerve-racking breaking sounds, sirens, and gun shots.
