Diploma for my poem,  Her Aromatic Windowseat

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Her Aromatic Windowseat

She looks out of her window
Where the darkness covers the world
Beyond her room filled with pink roses, in low
Vases, littered on her windowsill, not a coward,

She watches the storm brew from within,
Safe in her harbor, a haven of scents adorn
Her with mystique, incomparable to the crow who built-in
Its home outside her window in a flow of corn

Ears reaching up to the sky, pleading,
Pleading for rain to steep the soil with
Life giving water, rejuvenating, healing,
Giving abundance where famine takes away breath

Of life on a scorching summer day.
She watches, lightning flutters in brilliant Light
As thunder booms its might, scaring those in play
With extenuating fright whose plight

Will drown out their fears replacing
Them with a pinhole of hope shining
Through the darkest raven blackness flying
Into the sky with optimism sparking

A deluge of creativity unbound by earthy
Trifles that bog the soul into a rut of endless routine.

Accolade and Review for my poem, FEAR, BREATHE,  THINK, ACT

FEAR, BREATHE, THINK, ACT

FEAR
Fear: fast heart beats feasting feverishly
Every time fear ramps serotonin quickly,
Amply avid in avoiding pain, fastidious in
Remaining alive to tell the tale of FEAR.
FEAR

BREATHE  …
Barely breathing, the brain astoundingly
Reveals its respiratory ease, by reviewing
Every fear, entering the data, waiting
Another moment for analysis, wading,
Through the morass of a lack of logic,
Hearing only haloed heartbeats, heaving.
Eternally aware of time flowing: BREATHE.
BREATHE ..

THINK …
Through and push through thinking
Halves my reasoning, homing only on survival
Instead of clarity of thought,
Never receiving the memo of
Knowing that ‘fight or flight’ is all in a knot. THINK.
THINK …

ACT …
Actively, arduously permitting action that
Covers slippery seconds of being frozen, while
Time reveals your success, failure, and your missing fervor.
ACT …

Certificate of Achievement for my poem, Clown Mask

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Clown Mask

Of all the social masks I wear,
My favorite is that of the clown.
It’s cheery colors hide the circles under
My eyes, the blood red cheeks are a gown

For covering blotchy skin from bouts
Of crying concealed in my lonely room,
Where the walls are party to the clouts
Of invisible pressures well sheathed in a bloom

Of colors, passionate deadly red,
That’s double edged in giving me
My highs and lows, happy and sad,
While white’s my hope for peace that came

In the relatively darkened home,
Knocked lightly, politely asking permission
For entry. It entreats me
To join the calm within the raven compassion

Of a heart needing an outlet to its
Pent up frustrations, disillusionments,
Disappointments, and loss’s gots
Its hold on the vice of hate’s

Antonym requiring a face lifted
Into a mask of joy pierced by the gift
Of faith, love, and will to be lightened
By their brilliance overcoming the dead lift.

Award of Appreciation for my poem, Education’s Bought

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Education’s Bought

An education can be bought or sold,
An educator, teacher opens wisdom of old
And new spontaneously, as bold

As can be, rebelling against ingrained
Stereotypes, racism, inequality that gained
Fame throughout colonialism and payed

The price of their Ideology in blood
Of the colonized, the victims who fold
Under the pressure and division mastered

Through teaching the ‘other’ their
Impotence vis a vis controlled power
Of technology, ‘Civilisation’, that cower

Behind parts of religion without
Delving into knowledge whose fought
To  soar in the brightest light, bought

With it wisdom, diversity, understanding
Of people who are cultural, socializing
Being who need one another to go flying.

4th place, Diploma Certificate for my poem, Child’s Eyes

Thank you for the honor and your hard work.

Child’s Eyes

Look, look into the eyes of a cuddly child,
The window to hell peaks out instead.

Look, look into the kid’s shy demeanor
That shows he’s older than his seventh year.

He walks, cautiously, looking around, guardedly
For another back hand to the face, that’s lovely.

Look, as he flees swiftly from aggression
As a repeat is all he knows in his vision.

Look, look at his shredded clothing,
Ratty and spotty just like his living.

Look, the shimmer of tears is hovering,
Always expecting another blow that’s rending!

Look, no one’s the wiser,
Look, the guardian is the destroyer.

Look not at the cover,
But at the heart that needs a helper.

My poem, Trapped Humanity,  published in ILA Magazine

Thank you  for the honor and your hard work.

Exert from my poetry book, Perfectly Flawed poetry for change.

Trapped Humanity

A light breeze picks up and flings dried leaves
Into the air scraping along the asphalt and grass.
Outside,  the sun is shining brightly, but within
The window, where the air is stale from fear of pain
Everyone seems to be hiding behind squares of glass
Letting life pass them by as their isolation presses
Down on their sanity, and cabin fever rises.
People’s tempers become unbearable,
Spouses, children, friends, and close ones
Bear the brunt of each other’s ire, sparingling
They calm one another, worrying how long
This pandemic will stop the living from really living.

It feels like the walls are closing in on me,
Where none were there before.
Don’t let your confinement bind your movement,
Health, prayer, belief, courage, and helpfulness.
Your humanity, sanity, and health will be no less
Important in understanding one another’s plight,
And disdaining those who have so little value for light,
Life, liveliness, and loving, a death sentence, bright
In its suffocating need to oppress
While faith is for the living that’ll never press
Depression into hearts stagnant from hibernation.

Certificate of Appreciation for my poem: Love’s Masks

Thank you, administrators,  for the honor and your hard work.

Love’s Masks

Share your inner thoughts, ideas, ideals,
That power your imagination and hails
Down upon you, admiration, envy that entails
You have to choose who needs some derails.

Today, we hide behind our likes,
Our social media personae that drives
Our self-esteem into the grounds
If it’s not up to par with your peers.

Why do we hide?
Is intimacy such a bad ride,
That you need masks to keep all inside?

Or do you soar in flight
Fall, shatter, break, and give only a bite
Out of the ball, then turn it into a free for all?
