Award of Excellence for my poem,  Beyond Comfort

Thank you, administrators,  for the honor and your hard work.

Beyond Comfort

Where does life begin and end?
Not in birth and death, no, not at all.
It starts when you reach a bend
Of road least taken and soar in a ball

In the sky that helps you perceive
The limitations you’d set for
Yourself,  yet, when you set it to a sieve
You’re awakened to receive the bounty for

Leaving your norm and discover
The unknown world beyond
The sphere of comfort and ponder
Why it’s taken you so long to find

The courage to experience life
Beyond the borders of your
Comfort zone that lited you into strife
Of habitual drudgery that becomes a chore.

Certificate of Outstanding,  poem, The Cycle of Life

Thank you administrators for the honor 🎖

The Cycle of Life

Life, birth, wedding, and death
Are the closed cycle of life’s
Unending strive to surmount its stresses.

The closed circle cycles in an infinite loop
Starting with an infant, needing an endless group
To help with the raising of those so dependent.

Youth and the need for friendship and peers
Is the first of many changes rolling fears
Into those struggling with new responsibilities.

Adults have to balance the circles
Of friends,  family, spouse, collegues, and babes
Creating an equilibrium that feeds their joy’s
Rather than their emptiness, loneliness.

Seniors bend and flex back into a state
Of infancy, dependency, and put a stake
In what they perceive as the end, death.
But is death an end or a start?

Does the cycle end?
Or is it perpetuated in a new bend
That begins after one’s end?

What comes first: the beginning or the ending
The egg or the chicken,  the mother or child?
Where does it all really end?

Holding my baby

Describe one of your favorite moments.

I waited 9 months to meet her. Through my swollen belly, cramps, hot flashes, sweats, and excruciating pain, I finally got to hold her, Fida is her name. She’ll be 29 at the end of August, but the second she was placed in my arms, she became all mine. Her smell, her tiny fingers, toes, arms, tummy, diapers, and sweet voice. Even when she cried, she was quiet, calm, and too cute for her own good. She made me a mother, teacher, friend, mentor, who surpassed her loving mother.

That moment is still ingrained in my heart and mind. I take it out when I’m down, peruse the happiness, joy, fear, and the miracle of birth, and know that the world will make a positive turn, in which it will revere the family unit, it’s simplicity and loyalty.
