5 favorite fruits

List your top 5 favorite fruits.

My 5 favorite fruits:

Mango, pineapple,  and papaya as each one reminds me of my childhood in Ghana.  Plus, their sweet flavor and juicy flavors always leave a wondrous taste in your mouth. Apples are my go to fruit, I love the crunch, sweet and tangy combination that makes you salivate for more.  Finally, oranges are a reminder of my grandmother’s, mother, and mother-in-law  who all enjoyed eating them.

So which is my favorite? It’s a mood thing. I believe my mood dictates my preferences,  very much like when I’m craving chocolate!

My poetry book, Perfectly Flawed poetry for change, is available on all eplatforms including Amazon.  It was on the finalist list for the Canadian Book Club Awards 2023.

Platinum Certificate, Portrait of Fear

Portrait of Fear

She stands, erect, head partially
Turned to the painter, her eyes, shadowy,
Glazed with raging emotions that’re bubbly.

Her piercing hazel gaze is turned
Inward, wondering what kind
Of mother she’ll be, as she recalled

Her childhood history, where Impunity,
Disdain both pulverized confidence simply
Because, as a beautiful woman, Her cry

Against aggression and violence
Isn’t seemly, for her opinions aren’t a credence
In a society that idolizing patriarchy’s subservience

To powers of manipulation imposing
A narrative of their choosing
So they can propagate races racing

Against one another for powers,
As they use brainwashed creatures
To consolidate their needs under pressures

Of retaliation if they stray from the narration
They wish foreworded, and in compensation
For hurting others, is money’s abundant domination

Against humanity and its morality.
Her slumberous bedroom gaze is ably
Cognizant that her babe, still tiny in her belly,

Will need great guidance and diplomacy
To navigate a world where genocide is fully
Embraced by the elitists throwing their weight, heavily.

Share it

You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

Without having someone share in the joy of the news, it falls flat and becomes irrelevant. The second thing I’d do is thank God for His help in achieving my goal, news.

Places, people, and events

What makes you feel nostalgic?

As the new year approaches, you look back and realize that you’ve grown as an individual, while others are stuck in a rut. As I remember my past obstacles and breakthroughs, I recall my childhood holidays filled with aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and friends gathering under 1 roof. The noise, laughs, cries of fear for a too mischievous child were part of the atmosphere of unity.

Today, only a few hours remain for a brand new year to start, a blank slate, maybe?

Never.

Life is cumulative, and there’s always context for actions and reactions. I wish for simplicity in life to return, where actions don’t need to have double or triple meanings, but where honesty, love, peace, and equality are the only values that are enacted by all.

Time to Do More

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

It feels like the world spins and flows like a river, unstoppable, and when it seems as though you don’t have enough time for everyone you love. As a nurturer and introvert, I bottle up my worries as I try, unsuccessfully, to take care of everyone’s needs before my own. The time, I would like to have is so that I can take care of myself better. That way, I can give more.

Sometimes, the world around you feels so oppressive that it stumps your ability to navigate a world that supports murder, death, and genocide of those weaker. That feeling carries into your home, blocking your capacity to be there for your family, as it drowns you, constantly, in visions of charred bodies, women, children, elderly, even infants in incubators die. How can I reconcile my compassionate nature with what I’m being asked to bear witness to?

How can I perform within my family when I’m bombarded by such visions of violent, thoughtless aggression against the innocent? Why is it that I have to witness peoples’ lack of humanity as they watch and do nothing?

Meeting of a possible spouse

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

During my parents’ time, the families of the ‘bride and groom’ would all meet together with the ‘possible couple’ several times before it was even deemed acceptable for them to go out together. Plus, the only way they were permitted to see each other socially was with a trusted chaperone, who could be a brother, sister, uncle, or cousin, depending on where the ‘couple’ wanted to go.

Even during my time that was watered down, but now it’s completely extinct with the age of the click and ‘modern’ perceptions that encourage greater independence while promoting falling in love. Moreover, people perceive that having the parents’ opinion is irrelevant to the couple’s future together. I, however, completely disagree with that, as a couple, especially ones living in the West, need a lot of help from their parents when they start their family. This requires that all parties can at least be civil to one another in order for that to take place. Plus, the children benefit from different generational perspectives that will help them have a better social understanding of what to expect when their peer circle increases to include friends from different races, cultures, and opinions.
