My Sunshine

Malak Kalmoni. Chehab

Such a tender and loving tribute — a mother’s sunshine truly shines through every word. ☀️ By, Dominique Ercela Albano

My Sunshine

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine”
My sunshine is made of three babies,
Each special, each a different character, with cries
They grab a hold of hearts in their prime, that’s fine.

“You make me happy when skies are gray”
When I’m down, all I need is your smile,
Giggles, laughter that drown worries in a file
Closed as I let myself drift into imagination’s fray

“You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you”
Till you have a child to hold in arms that cradle
Love, compassion, joy, happiness, fear that ladle
In plain sight, in play gone astray as you flew

Out of my protective hold and broke
The skin in a scratch without match
For it bled red blood, only a trickle, but it hatch
A broken heart in me, for I failed to crack

A bone of mine in the protection of my baby, lay
On the ground crying that my sunshine
Isn’t happy, but will smile again in a fine
Rest as long as I hold her cradled and pray:

“Please don’t take my sunshine away
You make me happy when the skies are grey.”
