Vacay: Tripoli, Lebanon

At the old Souk and old port where the architecture reflects the Lebanese history. The city is called, Tripoli, due to the 3 doors of entry to the city. The old ports history is filled with different civilizations, archeological artifacts, buildings that represent the marriage of cultures, and blending of religions into a united people.

There are three Souks: gold, clothing, and copper that showcase the melding of history and modernity. Their beauty lies in their preservation and continued upkeep.

Forgotten History: Old Souk: Gold and Clothing

I’ve lived in Tripoli, Lebanon, for 20 odd years and never visited the old Souks. Artisanal clothing of hijab, kaftan, and much more are available to choose from. The variety will please all possible tastes in fashion, from materials to folklore designs, representing the culture of the middle east. The rainbow of colors and materials will astound the onlooker with joy and appreciation for the embroidery.

On the other side of this market is the Gold Souk, where you can see the craftsmen working with the gold, turning it into luxurious pieces.
