Power to the People

Uprisings, protests, rebellion, civil unrest, riots

Are forms of criticism to political systems.

All require courage, guts, and (lots of) blood

In order to be heard by the powers that be, as they laze in bed.

The latter line their pockets using hand gestures

To acquire and spend their ill gotten gains,

While those vying for change use peace

And the strength of their vocal chords to be

Their delivery system for their opinions,

They are always loud, proud, stout, and ground

Out of strength of the lands they’re defendants of

Valiantly trying to overcome overwhelming

Odds to live honorably in their homes, driving,

Driving away those who wish to turn them

Into lambs for the slaughter, as they rebel

Against injustice, inequality, oppression,

Subjugation, and destruction of unique ethics.

They use muscles, ingenuity, and individual powers

To forward their needs, knowing that few are

Heard, appreciated, acknowledged, adapted

Into a system that favors only those who corrupt,

Avid for power, willing to encroach on others

To possess what they deem as ‘necessary ‘.

When will we learn that humanity needs

Its world community to survive any difficulties

Unseen, small, large or in betweens?

We need awareness, acceptance, and self-love

To promote healthy relationships among family,

Friends, peers, colleagues, and everyone else who try

To help in the development of each individual child’s

Character who needs everyone’s support

To feel safe to express his/her emotions

And beliefs freely without enduring oppositions

That are degrading, demeaning, or cause destructions.

I'm a Canadian whose life has been interesting as I've lived in Developing countries and here. The contrast of law, order, and amenities available to us Canadians (which we take for granted, sometimes) to war torn civil wars is enormous. It leaves an influence upon the soul that cries out for justice. My poetry and writing reflect that and more.
