Sightless Eyes

The light of hope has been extinguished from

The eyes of the Lebanese people who are forlorn,

Dejected, and lost, as their leaders fight amongst

One another for scraps of power and money, uncaring about the angst

They cause their people, followers, and peers

To bleed out their hope in sweating doing their jobs.

The last vestiges of divination that a future is possible

Have dissipated with the smoke of the last port explosion

Rendering the once brilliant gazes, now flat with the notion

That justice, equality, freedom of speech,

Acquisition of human rights, even, love, honor have a reach

In which they have a material value rather than ethical.

How, oh how, will such oppression be abolished?

Replaced with honesty, selfworth, acceptance,

And realization that we, as a people, matter!

We matter to ourselves, loved ones, mostly: God!

These hardships are testing the believers of good

And those traveling the ‘right path’ will find hope

Where they least expect it and sweep away their troubles.

I'm a Canadian whose life has been interesting as I've lived in Developing countries and here. The contrast of law, order, and amenities available to us Canadians (which we take for granted, sometimes) to war torn civil wars is enormous. It leaves an influence upon the soul that cries out for justice. My poetry and writing reflect that and more.
