I awake having forgotten to breathe.
As I take my first breath of the day, I am thankful
That all my senses have survived the night full
Of nightmarish scenes chasing me down as I sleep.
Fitful In my REM sleep as fear of the past lays its claws,
Sharp and deep into my accelerated heart beats,
That make a scary symphony foreshadowing futures,
Uncertainty, and the unknowns.
Learn from the past the lessons necessary to skip forward
Into a place of peace and restfulness that exists within.
That tranquility will surely push you into a future in
Which you can face undetermined with courage,
Your head held high, certain of your abilities to navigate
The choppy seas of your future.
